@Johnny Utah my biggest problem with vlc was probably the performance issues (and I run on a toaster, so that's kind of a problem). Second big problem was the audio issue that has been a part of this player since the beginning (and according to the developers will never be fixed...) I'm talking about the random pitch shifting/wobble that happens when you skip through a video and continue watching. It happens with every video on every system and I can hear it and I hate it. People started leaving the player around two years ago where mpv and SMplayer (its most stable gui) gained a lot of popularity.

Also, if you change some config line to: alang: jpn, jp, en slang: jpn, jp, en mpv will prefer Japanese subs and audio to english ones, if your torrent also provides you with eng subs and audio. Normally, it'd prefer english or use the first one in the list of a/s, but this way, as long as the subs files define which language it is in, it will automatically be used.

Nice video, I would like to know where do you download your anime with Japanese subtitles?

A lot of my Japanese subtitles are not recognized by the clipboard autocopy feature, even when the English subtitles on the exact same video are :(

Hey Matt, I'm so glad you made this video. I think I e-mailed you requesting your input on language immersion media players. So, this won't play multiple subtitles at the same time? For example, both English and Spanish, with the option to hide one and show one of them.

There is a script called sub-bilingual listed on their site and on GitHub. I haven’t used it myself, but it should create a bilingual subtitle by pressing shift+b. Then you can change subtitles as usual.

Is it hard to find subtitles in the language you are learning? I told my daughter about this, and we pondered this question. Thanks!

Very much depends on the language. There are tons for Japanese, and I have been able to find a good amount for Mandarin as well.

this is next level stuff!! im guessing you use this for chinese? It would be neat to see the examples with chinese material more often, though I guess most the viewers are japanese learners.

Is this for immersion or sentence mining. Sorry if this is a dumb question ?
