*Here are some recommend scripts:* -Mpvacious (make cards with image+audio lighting fast): github.com/Ajatt-Tools/mpvacious -Speed-transition (speed up only when there's no dialog): github.com/zenyd/mpv-scripts -Sub-pause (pauses the video at the end of each sub line): github.com/Ben-Kerman/mpv-sub-pause -I updated texthooker.com so that it uses a nicer font! -If there is no mpv folder in appdata->roaming, try running mpv once and then refreshing the directory. -A user made a modified version of mpvacious that works on Mac! Get it here: mvj.link/4KZOig *NOTE*: The text may come through to texthooker.com as garbage characters unless you install mpv through homebrew; if this happens: 1. Install homebrew by following instructions at brew.sh/ 2. Open a terminal and execute "brew install mpv" 3. Then open mpv by using the terminal command "mpv" followed by the path to the file

I'm one of the authors of mpv and have been doing AJATT for quite a bit. I was very surprised to see the mpv icon in my KZbin notifications, lol. The scripts make it super useful for language immersion. Another trick I use to the ones you mentioned (without going into scripts), is I will use english subs and hide them. For shows that don't have jp subs, that way I can still use the english subs timings to repeat sentences (without ever unhiding them).

Thanks for creating such a great video player, I was finally able to abandon VLC thanks to it! Just a question, after installing the script Matt mentioned, I tried pressing A and was give the message "OSD overlay is not supported in this version of mpv" There doesnt seem to be an updater bat in the mpv folder, do I just go to mpv.io/installation/, get the latest release and install it? btw after running updater.bat as admin, within the cmd prompt there's the line 'mpv doesn't exist. Actually they are user freindly for intellectual users (I'm not a one. Especially setting up some of scripts on windows take mehours before finding this video.) It's really simple: A developer writes this apps and he is not gonna sell it to ordinary people so he would make it in a way that is convinient for himself and other tech enthusiasts. And lots of linux users argue configuration using scripts and command line apps are better.

@Johnny Utah my biggest problem with vlc was probably the performance issues (and I run on a toaster, so that's kind of a problem). Second big problem was the audio issue that has been a part of this player since the beginning (and according to the developers will never be fixed...) I'm talking about the random pitch shifting/wobble that happens when you skip through a video and continue watching. It happens with every video on every system and I can hear it and I hate it. People started leaving the player around two years ago where mpv and SMplayer (its most stable gui) gained a lot of popularity.

@@marinellovragovic1207 Thanks for the info. I had some performance issues with version 3.0 (x64) so I downgraded to 2.1 (x86), which I've been happily running ever since. This is how I made it work in MAC (Catalina): - Install MPV - Create the file mpv.conf and put it into /Users/yourUsername/.config/mpv - Download Mpvacious - Create a folder with the name "scripts" in the already mentioned folder (/Users/yourUsername/.config/mpv) - …and put the file subs2srs.lua inside - Install xclip and curl (these can be install with homebrew in the terminal command) - When the video + subs are running in mpv, XQuartz will be open (after enable "Clipboard autocopy") - Go to the XQuartz menu > Applications and select "xman" - You are ready to see the subs in texthooker by means of Toggle clipboard extension (don`t forget to allow access to file URLs) (and don't close XQuartz while playing videos in mpv)

Also, if you change some config line to: alang: jpn, jp, en slang: jpn, jp, en mpv will prefer Japanese subs and audio to english ones, if your torrent also provides you with eng subs and audio. Normally, it'd prefer english or use the first one in the list of a/s, but this way, as long as the subs files define which language it is in, it will automatically be used.

Oh, if the mpv folder doesn't show up in your APPDATA just make sure to run mpv first and drag and drop a video in and then close it. Matt might have mentioned this and I just didn't pay attention.

Is there going to be a follow up tutorial with this program where you show us how to make Anki cards? I just saw you delete the old tutorial video from August so I figured you might have come up with a different method

I think you can make series out of features for such apps. I was looking for a good player for a language learning. I hope there is a feature to hide and show 2nd subtitle file too quickly look up english

Hi Matt. This video really helped me set up and use mpv. I've really enjoyed my time using it so much so that I've stopped using VLC 🤣. I was wondering if you could instruct me on how to add a shuffle function (for Windows 10) to the software. Would be very grateful for that. Thank you!

Hey Matt, I'm so glad you made this video. I think I e-mailed you requesting your input on language immersion media players. So, this won't play multiple subtitles at the same time? For example, both English and Spanish, with the option to hide one and show one of them.

There is a script called sub-bilingual listed on their site and on GitHub. I haven’t used it myself, but it should create a bilingual subtitle by pressing shift+b. Then you can change subtitles as usual.
