In summer, my backyard male cardinals sit in the brush nearby as their ladies have a splash in the birdbath. Sometimes, several cardinal couples come together for a bath; some 2-3 cardinal males watch over the girls from close-by as the girls bathe together. It’s quite adorable.

Age 10 in 1970 my very favourite book was The Witch Family by Eleanor Estes. The red cardinal bird would fly to Amy's window. I never realized the cardinal bird was real until I was an adult ! It fills me with wonder every time I see one on film (I'm in UK so no red cardinal birds here sadly)

what gorgeous birds! i've never seen a cardinal, myself, so this is a real treat! here, we get a bigger variety of birds than i'm sure many people are aware...but we don't have any birds that are nearly so colorful! i was once at Yosemite, and a bluejay swooped overhead and perched near me. that was my first time seeing one in the wild, and it was so beautiful! it really is such a peacefully joyous pleasure to see birds in the wild. thank you so much for your videos! :)

We get quite a few kinds of birds to our back yard feeders, but it is always special when the cardinals drop in. Their beautiful bright color makes us sit up and take notice!

That female cardinal is so pretty. The males get way too much attention. I don't understand why people find the females boring. Brown is also a beautiful color, but this one even has bits of red to complement it.

You can really feel the difference in character between the male and the female. The male pecking the wooden board like a proud general and the female more gentle.

I have the same thing going on at my house. I put sunflower seeds on top of a fence post, and two cardinals eat there like they are on a date.

beautiful pair of cardinals. In venezuela and colombia we have the vermilion cardinal the male and female look almost the same as the northern cardinal. However, this southamerican cardinal has a gray beak and the crest is bigger. The male is also red and the female brown and grey.

Female cardinals here in Ontario are a vividly iridescent pinkish orange and breathtaking to the eyes. Both males and females are stunning. Cardinals are among the most beautiful birds on earth. I say that unreservedly, even knowing about exotic kaleidoscopic-coloured birds in the tropics. It is great seeing them in close-up detail. This little lady is more brownish than the ones here; maybe she is younger or older than average, but she is still pretty.

So cute, female cardinals are awesome as well most people probably think they're just boring cuz they're not red and simply brown, the color of a lot of birds. But they're far from boring! They're a nice shade of brown at that- and they have red on them, they got their pointy heads, they even have nice red eyebrows! And they're so cute when they're chubby, almost like a fat chocobo. When you see a male and a female together it's so cute. How come they didn't eat together? It's clear to me that these two are a couple, because as far as I know, those chipping sounds the male was making in the beginning was to call the female to come over, he had food etc. the sound is used when there is a threat but also to call their partner over, usually to get food. I'm not certain on this though, i read something like that once- it's possible I misinterpreted it but it seems to make sense and the video almost validates what I understood from it, seeing as the male continually makes the sound and then a female ultimately shows up. Someone who knows more about this stuff care to explain some of this stuff to me? (If my theory about the male "calling" the female over is indeed what happened, when and what for these calls are given, and most importantly, why didn't they eat on the platform together!?)

CenturianEagle I just learned the call to mate. It's soo beautiful. Trully you have to listen to them to understand what is being said. Mate calling...or just warning sign singing . I've seen squirrels around their food and understand the calls of warning now.

FACT: I can call the male Cardinal at will when ever I hear his chirp. I have the male whistle call down 100% where any cardinal in that area will fly down and approach me. Last time one came too close and attacked me hahahaha
