There are very few things which can be spread between animals and humans if basic hygiene is observed and I notice Ben does tick the main boxes on this all the time. Most of the hysteria around "zoonotic illnesses" is total codswallop and only recently invented concept at the same time as they invented that term and slipped it into the dictionary as if it was nothing new.

@@GrassPossum It's not a newly invented concept, but serious zoonotic illnesses are fairly few and far between, especially when basic precautions and common sense are used. Think rabies, or here in Australia we have lyssavirus we can catch from bats, and the deadly hendravirus we can catch from horses. Toxoplasmosis can also be detrimental to unborn babies if contracted by the pregnant mother. I've been a veterinary nurse for a couple of decades and have managed to avoid contracting anything zoonotic. I've always avoided working in equine medicine, because hendravirus is no joke (not to mention I've known a couple of colleagues who were killed by an unfortunately placed kick - one to the head, the other to the chest causing cardiac arrest). I did end up nursing a very sick Bengal cat that turned out to have toxoplasmosis, right when I was 20 weeks pregnant. That was pretty scary, because pretty much everyone who has been around cats already has toxoplasmosis antibodies, but my blood tests at the time showed that I somehow did not have the antibodies, which is practically unheard of in vet professionals. It was a scary couple of weeks waiting to find out if I'd contracted it, as it could caused my baby to die in utero or be born with hearing loss and severe intellectual disabilities. Thankfully I was in the clear - there's a lot to be said for practicing basic good hygiene! I just had this lingering worry in the back of my head that maybe I had accidentally unconsciously touched my face or scratched my nose without realising or something while handling the cat, but I guess I'm as careful as I thought and hoped I was, thank god!

Reminds me of the story of going trick-or-treating in Waco, Texas when noticed an acre of land covered with lights and decorations. We'd never seen anything like it. We gathered up the courage to knock on the door, and the owner of said household was none other than Big Ounce, dressed in a Dio Brando costume. He gave both of us a large bag of candy with multiple full-sized candy bars and a large bag of Skittles, the purple bag. There were little Halloween cards inside as well, and when I opened mine, inside it said, "THE FOG IS COMING THE FOG IS COMING THE FOG IS COMING". I'll never forget that day, nor will I ever forget Big Ounce. Wow Uncle Ben, you could’ve made 30 videos outta this! Ploppy was just so adorable! I honestly didn't think a opossum could be so cute. Especially when she was eating a banana. Such an adorable animal. Never had a problem with opossums.
