I think your discussion on overcurrent protection and breaker sizing was very informative as a relatively inexperienced apprentice. Keep up the great work! I’m still a few years off the correct licensing to be able to do my “own work” but seeing the details you cover and thought process on installations is very motivating.

Do it but get a conventional mini spilt lineset and a vacaum pump those precharged linesets fail and don't work. And never coil up any excess linesets that's hvac 101. Dont believe me you can watch Ted cook at anti diy and his video on how to properly install a mini split there is also hvac guys channel there is also my hvac life all have gone over this.

Would've been cool to see you wire that SP to the disconnect. Lot of videos floating on YT with bad info on how to hook it up I would recommend to run a service outlet near the condenser for techs to use for servicing for the furture. Believe its code? Not sure. If Min Amprage is not listed then LRA Load Runng Amps is listed on equipment for conduxtor sizing. Also have to consider the run of the circuit, so upsizing is fine. Awesome work as always. Hope the refrigerant was dunped in a tank before you cut the old unit out. Enjoy the mini slpit. Now once the old wall unit is out you can add installation and cut the cold draft out of the room. 😊

@@electricianron_New_Jersey On a Flare Fitting they form the end of the Copper Tubing with a Flare tool like a Trumpet end which then fits over and is locked down a rounded brass end. They are suppose to end up air tight (metal on metal) but can leak if the copper flare is done poorly.

Have a hvac pro replace the lineset. you can also order mini split linesets off of Amazon and cut them to length with a, flare kit and then get a vacaum pump and gauge set but again it might be worth the cost to find a competant hvac tech redo the linesets as the refrigerent will have to be pumped back down into the condenser. That's why I don't trust those so called pre vacked linesets they are junk and fail.
@chuckq54
@chuckq54 3 ай бұрын
Hi Ron, I believe you are not supposed to coil up the excess line set because it acts as a trap for the refrigerant oil which will shorten the life of the compressor. They ask that the excess tubing be run horizontally so the oil can move freely. The best case scenario is of course to shorten the tubing but that requires an HVAC tech to recover the refrigerant, vacuum the system, pressure test, then recharge the system. Also surge protection is a must with these inverter systems with the control,boards inside the units. Nice work as always 👍👍
@gabrielstern4992
@gabrielstern4992 3 ай бұрын
Exactly right I don't care what Mr cool says and what some others say you cut lineset to length and properly flare the fittings and then vac the system down a ton of hvac techs end up getting called up when these systems get corrosion in the linesets. From coiled up linesets and then sets off a code that shuts the compressor down. And yes the refrigerent can be pumped back into the condenser. Before redoing linesets withoyt having to recover all the refrigerent.

No minimum 10/2 gauge which is up to 30 Amps but to be on the safe side 8/2 gauge. For any condenser split system for the condenser or mini split. For an air handler on a split system 6/2 Guage. That's hvac 101. Especially if using a heat strip on a heat pump because the heat strips use a 60 Amp breaker. That's hvac 101 Hope that helps.

And never ever coil up a lineset even if Mr cool says it's okay. Not necessarily true. I've got one in my shop where I replaced a Mr. Cool that did not work since startup for 3 years with replacement by a well known system installed to all techniques for proper and long term operation. And I'm working on another presently where the owner installed and never has worked. In a few years a portion of these will fail and the owners will be shocked by the costs of repairs and/or they will realize the refrigeration effect is only in the room where the "head" is located even if their are multiple heads all over the home or building. I see lot's of replacement work for these in a few short years.

@@SqueakyHingeexactly right I have seen plenty of videos where hvac guys have to come out and redo the linesets on the Mr cools because the system stops working. One guy got so disgusted he was ready to say I will not work on anymore Mr cools but there are other companies too now trying that so called diy precharged no vac linesets rule number one never coil up any excess linesets period it starves the system of oil. Me personally I like pioneer mini splits because they actaully tell the diy person what tools they need and how to do it right in the instructions. But say hey if you are not comfortable doing it call a licensed hvac tech.
