The animosity amongst HVAC contractors toward Mr Cool mini splits is just ridiculous. Now mind you im not saying mr cool is a super high quality unit. However thats not the biggest point of a diy hvac system. The DIYer mr cool systems biggest benefit is its cost! For people who cant afford the ridiculous amount of money HVAC contractors want or for people who simply wont pay the ridiculous prices out of pure principle! We had a 3 ton system in our home go bad ,so we got 3 quotes for a replacement and the cheapest of all 3 was around 20 grand for a heat pump. Lol! Did a little research and found out its so expensive is because contractors like to make 100% markup just for selling you the unit! So after some laughter at the phone calls later wanting our decision from said contractors we decided to go with mini splits and install them ourselves. That was a little over 3 years ago. Havnt had even a hickup since. Even if they all stopped working today and were not fixxable we would still be way ahead of the game to go out and purchase the same replacements. What i find extremly laughable is one of the contractors who refused to install a system i purchased, trying to save some money on my end has recently inquired to us about doing regular maintenance on them. I do guve the guy some credit though. Hes figured out that instead of bad mounthing mini splits he could actually make some money doing maintenance on them. Lol! The whole thing is just silly 😅

I'm totally fine with people buying MR COOL please go ahead and spend your money how you want. Look up MR COOL on the BBB Look them up on warranty, look them up on customer support, I’ve seen so many of them installed and they all look ugly I personally wouldn’t want a unit with coiled-up lines and dripping down the wall @ my home, I would want it to look nice. You can do whatever your want but I know deep down you would get a Mitsubishi if you could no one likes to settle on an MR COOL unless you can’t afford anything else I get it.

Mitsubishi is the better product mainly for the backing when something goes wrong but you also pay a lot more. Same if you have a company install it. I mean just a 1 or 2 zone system a company might charge you $8-10k minimum. Well for some people it might be better to buy mr. Cool for 2k install it with their friend and if it breaks within 3-5 years its still cheaper to do it all over again than having had a pro do it initially. Comoany are ridiculously exoensive how much they charge to install something that is much much less labor intensive than a central air unit. Charge $1000 over the cost of the unit but companies are charging 2-3 times the cost of the unit.
@ductlessplushvac
@ductlessplushvac Жыл бұрын
But what about all the expenses and time a company took to learn how to do the install right the 1st time. Is that not worth anything. What about the tools and skills learned to be a good tech plus the time spent like getting certified, tools purchased, workman’s comp insurance, trucks, phones, general Liability Insurance, website, vehicle insurance, vehicle upkeep, licensing from each city, what if a buddy or friend burns the house down cause of a bad install do you think the home insurance company will pay for the damages, what about permits from the city. So I think your saying it’s all good to bend the rules if your doing the install but professionals have to do it by the book! You only look at the cost of the equipment you don’t look at the big picture. People that do this everyday VS some DIY guy that does it once is a huge difference. Professional people put their names and money on the line everyday not some DIY install they break the rules don’t get permits not EPA certified, not licensed no tools, and do a low level install will never be the same from a pro. Next time you need to use a pro find a guy on the internet that’s not certified, has little skills, Work for you.

@@ductlessplushvac This is an interesting point. There is a big difference between self employed a/c repair and just working for Carrier, Trane or Lennox. The expenses and time a company took to train it’s employees how to do an install right is worth something. But that is an investment the company makes in itself and it’s employees. Prior to, you have to factor in the value, risk and acceptable losses of such a business investment. The tools they provide, certifications and insurance they pay along with company vehicle upkeep and licensing of those tax write offs are all operating costs of doing business just to get into the business, employess don't stay on forever. They don’t always pass that stuff on to the customer or charge them those fees because they don’t expect the general public and customers to pay for that stuff. They knew what they were getting into. They don’t charge them for the rent on buildings or the electric, gas or water they pay, that would be silly. They charge a fair market value to stay competitive and can undercut if they want or charge a lot more if they feel they offer something others don’t or provide a unique boutique service. But large companies can cut corners too and often it’s not a company value but more a employees personal choice due to complacency, laziness or lack of pride in their work. That happens everywhere to everyone, under cover cameras catch this and we watch it on Tv all the time. Now a self employed business owner is very different. They do pay for all their own tools and business insurance, vehicle, licensing themselves. However all of that is a “personal” commitment and choice for your own growth and self improvement that nobody forced you to do. All that tax write off stuff is the cost of doing business just to get into business. You can’t pass that stuff on or charge the customer that because they aren’t supposed to pay for your education and experience. You can certainly TRY to charge them for all that, but they won’t know because you aren’t supposed to tell them. It will be difficult to advertise that too. You have to have fair competitive prices to stay in the game, it is what it is. As a business owner and a DIY guy, I personally always feel I’d do the job better just because I would pour my heart and soul into the job and do the best because it’s for me, not just be there earning an hourly rate for a company that underpays me most likely in my mind. Unless the job is heart surgeon or building bridges for the city, that I would leave to those that know it best. Pro’s are still human and can still make mistakes, though in theory they should be less often, but that’s what warranty is for and part of the customer service experience. It all boils down to the customer making a choice that is in their best interest and in range of their budget, each has it’s pro’s and con’s. Product selection boils down to what you are willing to pay. You make your own choice on value, but consider availability and pricing of repair parts and reputation and reliability of the company that will schedule a service call from a third party service provider anyway. Most of these are rebrands from overseas too. but what do i know, just a peasant on the internet with an opinion. just letters on a screen. But hey nice video, nice mitsubishi, clean install.

I have a Pioneer 12K BTU 21.5 SEER mini split in my living room (also installed properly) and it's alright for the less than $900 I paid for it. The heating and cooling performance, dehumidification, and energy efficiency is good and it's been trouble free over the last 5 years besides 2 remotes failing, but it also has poor temperature control regardless of whether I set it to use the temp sensor in the remote or in the indoor unit. It seems to view the setpoint as a rough suggestion rather than a command, so I frequently have to adjust the setpoint to prevent it from overperforming under light loads and underperforming as the heating or cooling load increases. It's not terrible, just a little annoying. How's the temperature control and performance of your Mitsubishi FS06? Does it actually keep the room at the temp you set it at? I've been considering getting one for my bedroom to replace the window shaker and space heater, so I'm really hoping the Mitsubishi works better than my Pioneer considering how expensive they are.

Just replaced a 5-year old LG system (installed by a licensed HVAC tech - LG no longer manufactures the circuit board for the exterior unit) with a Fujitsu system (also installed by a licensed HVAC tech). I looked at a Mitsubishi system installed by a Mitsubishi Diamond dealer, but the cost was going to be $5,700. The Fujitsu was $1,800 installed with a 10-year mfr parts warranty. I just couldn’t justify the add’l nearly $4K cost for a Mitsubishi, when the cost for the hardware itself is within about $200. I’m finding that these single zone systems are basically throwaways anyway (much like a window/wall unit) as parts may/may not be available and it’s difficult to find anyone that wants to repair them. Saw an online ad for a new Goodman 12K BTU mini-split unit for $400 (on sale) recently. For rental properties, I can purchase a couple of spares and just swap them out when they fail. Line sets, drain line, and electrical will already be in place.

Okay, you can keep buying whatever you like. Mitsubishi systems are designed to last 30 years, they come with a 12-year parts and 12-year compressor warranty and we back that up with a 10-year labor warranty. If you had a major malfunction like a compressor failure we would replace it for free. I think you found companies that poorly install systems and don't back them up with integrity and just want a quick $buck$. I'm a 33-year service tech/installer we have hundreds and hundreds of units installed all over the country. You need to find better companies that have better install skills like pressure testing, performing good Refrigeration practices, and high-quality craftsmanship and the best tools to work for you. I can tell you this we remove several very expensive systems other companies install every year do to poor installation. Think about it like this Getting the best Dr. For your injuries is not the cheapest to save money it's your health right the same goes for construction stop wasting your hard-earned money on poor-qualified companies. Mitsubishi has (3) levels of dealers (1st level and lowest Diamond dealer) (2nd level Preferred Diamond dealer) & (3rd level Elite Diamond Dealer like us) it takes hard work to reach Diamond Dealer status so don't judge companies unless you do your research and find the best one to work with. I wish you the best in the future and thanks for reaching out! Jared

@@ductlessplushvac Thanks for response. Not trying to disparage your business model and/or work ethic, level of expertise, and/or the Mitsubishi brand. I'm sure that they are all excellent, and that there are clients out there looking for just the product/service that you provide. And if I have the same experience with this new unit, then I'll have been schooled and will call a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer on the next go around. Thanks again!

Just buy a Pioneer DIY hyper heat model, good to -22f. No need to lock into an expensive install to get hyper heat. Pioneer not as plug and play as MrCool, you do need to vacuum the lines, but that is trivial. Bonus, since the lines aren't presealed, you can cut to length for perfect fit. Nice to see some local HVAC guys starting to be willing to PM and service diy. I guess some money is better than no money.

I just got an estimate for a 2 zone 36K mini split from an HVAC contractor. It was a pretty straightforward install. Subpanel rught there, wired and ready to go. One 16' lineset and one 30' linset. Was quoted $16,789!!!!!!!!!! For that price I'll go with a DIY Mr Cool 12 times out of 10!! !!!! The HVAC guys are marking sh__ up so ridiculously they're gonna put themselves out of business!!!!
