I so wish you all had included Mitsubishi in the description or the title and I would’ve probably seen your video a few weeks ago when I was finally forced to install my mini split on my own which included the exact same ceiling cassette you all installed. I am not an HVAC tech, but I was forced to do the install myself since I got ghosted by three different techs. It took me two weeks to install the entire system because I had to figure out everything but now our upstairs feels great. I did the ceiling cassette differently, since I was the only one installing it, and had no help. For one I had to move a rafter over, which was very scary, since I had never done anything like that, because the builder made the rafters too narrow. Second, I installed a steel cable on hooks in the attic and hoisted the system up into the attic and slid it down until I got over the area where I needed to drop it in place. At that point, I used ratchet straps to slowly drop it down and hold it in place while I bolted it to the rails that I installed above it. it’s very doable as a one person project, you just have to figure out what you need to do to make that possible.

Love your videos! I wish I lived in CO -- I'd hire you in a minute. I can't find anyone in MA that is willing to do attic ceiling casette installs, or be creative in how they run/hide the lines to make them look good. I can't tell if they are just being lazy and don't want to do the work, or if they don't agree with installing ceiling casettes from below into a cold attic.
@ductlessplushvac
@ductlessplushvac Жыл бұрын
Lazy and they don’t know how to do it. The unit can be fully serviced from the room and they never need to be in the attic for anything other than running the lines and controls. Super simple and clean install VS wall units! Mitsubishi is a huge company and they feel comfortable engineering them and mass production of them. We sell 9 out of 10 ceiling units over traditional wall units.

Doesn’t the unit need to be insulated in the attic with some type of foam insulation barrier around the unit before the blown insulation gets pushed back. There was a decent amount of gaps around the unit once you put the cassette and hung it in the ceiling (you could see up Inside the attic pretty good) Then you just put the covers over. What about drafts and most importantly when you push the blown insulation back around the unit above in the attic won’t it fall through the gaps into the living space once you take the cassettes covers off the service the unit? Thank you great videos just curious on this issue I see.

No you put a cardboard frame around the unit and cap it with a piece of insulation. The unit is already covered in insulation from the manufacturer.

Also, find center, send a pilot hole to make sure everything is perfect, then send a screw through the center of the template in the same place as the ceiling then measure each side the same. Cut out around the template screwed to the wall and you're in business.

I am planning to install this ceiling cassette 9000 BTU in a 15x15 or 225 sq ft bedroom with 3 internal walls and a northeast facing wall having 6'x4' window . This cassette will be part of a 4 zone 36000 BTU system, other zones being two 12K in much larger 450-500 sq ft bedrooms and a 9K in a similar 225 Sq ft bedroom. At least one of the two 12K zone will always be running for heating or cooling at full load. Since the attic above the room is an unconditioned space which gets to 120 F sometimes in otherwise moderate bay area summer, I want to keep the air handler in conditioned space and hence, the motivation to go for this unit. Any other option , like 6K wall unit, is not desirable due to aesthetics concerns. I am concerned that the 9K unit ( the lowest size available in this type from Mitsubishi ) may be too big for the smaller bedroom, but also told that the unit can modulate down to 3-4K particularly since it is part of much larger 4-zone 36K system which might make system a good fit and won't cycle too often or cause humidity issues. Is this inference correct ?
@ductlessplushvac
@ductlessplushvac Жыл бұрын
Depending on the heat load your getting in that room a 9k can be a little overkill however The unit can scale itself down when needed. I'm not sure if you know but there is a new 6000k unit just like the 9k unit that just came out, it might be a better fit. I put a new video out on it check it out, please. Jared

hi, i have a triple decker in boston with a flat roof. there is no attic. i want to add a ceiling cassette a/c unit for the top floor unit. with no attic, does that mean i can't install this type of unit? how much clearance above the unit do i need to have in order to be able to install this?
@ductlessplushvac
@ductlessplushvac Жыл бұрын
8” But you must think about the lines running to the indoor unit. How will you hook them up? How do the indoor unit pipes connect from the outdoor unit. I've installed them as low as 8”, but you have to be very clever with the control wire, piping and drain lines. Most of the time, we use the joist bay next to the one the unit is in and run all of that there. That install can be done 100% sometimes you need to do some additional framing Do it right the 1st time and you'll be happy! Don't settle on the wall units.

@@ductlessplushvac thank you so much! I won't be doing the install myself, my GC's hvac guy will do it. he was recommending putting the condenser on the roof and then building soffits in the rooms where the units will be located, but I wasn't convinced that was my only option. I just didn't understand why a ceiling unit wasn't an option, and just assumed the issue had to be a matter of clearance above the unit . This led me to searching the internet for a better understanding of hvac systems and mini splits, and that's how I found your page. Thanks so much for your prompt reply! It is greatly appreciated.

@@ductlessplushvac Thanks. After watching how you put the faceplate on I checked the screws for tightness and found one in the middle by the drain pan was missing - looks like the gasket there wasn't sealed as a result. I put a screw in there and tightened it down. Will see if this helps. Seems like I notice less musty smell. Question- I m building a new home. I like these ceiling cassettes. The house is a basic rectangle. Half of the rectangle is a ‘great room’ the second half is bedroom bath and laundry. The house is small approximately 1500 Sq ft. I would like to install. two ceiling cassettes in the main room ~ 750 sq ft. One in kitchen and the other at other end of big room. What I have read from Mitsubishi literature is the smallest as for as BTU’s is 9000. Also what product would you recommend for bedrooms. Would like cassettes but I think a little overkill! The house is being built super tight and and water tight with a above code insulation. ICF closed cell total shell enclosed. A conditioned attic space with fresh inside air from a ERV. I am going to get a manual J. What are your idea for this house???/
@ductlessplushvac
@ductlessplushvac Жыл бұрын
Yes the smallest unit is a 9000BTU However the system is going to drive down the BTUS. Ductless units are VRF systems and communicate directly with the compressor to send it only the amount of BTUS to satisfy the call for heat or cooling. Do you live in Colorado?
