What was amazing was how inept Vera felt to the story initially. Then this episode began and at first I said to myself, I don't want to see this interaction, I want to see what happens with White Rose. Then suddenly my eyes were glued to the screen and Vera very intelligently began deconstructing Elliott and I don't think I have ever been so entrenched into a TV experience as this. I have no one to talk to about Mr Robot, because no one watches this show around me. The day after I watched that episode, I was telling people that I am pretty sure I just witnessed the absolute best episode of any show around. Great deconstruction. I had not even thought about the stages of psychology, definitely expanded the greatness of what we watched.

Great video, the 407 Proxy Aunthentication Required parallel could also be referring to Vera realizing that HE does not have the credentials to access Elliot's secrets but KRISTA is the one that does.
@jguffey955 жыл бұрын
It's both. I'm a web engineer, here's somethings that might help for those who are curious: What is a Proxy? - when a direct route to the thing you want isn't available, but another route is, we call that a proxy. If you want a delicious McDonald's hamburger, but the road you usually take is closed, you can access the McDonald's via a detour, or proxy route. Often when we're building software, we might not be able to reach, or access the data we need, but we know that we do have access to a server that does have access, so we route the traffic through *that* other server to get what we need. Authentication Required (401) - You don't have access to the server you're connected to. Proxy Authentication Required (407) - Putting that all together. You have access to the server you're connected to, but *that* server lacks the proper credentials to the next server. Let's say you find your way on that detour road to McDonald's, but once there, you realize that road is closed too! Bummer, no hamburger for you - but at least now you understand error code 407!

I'd add for completeness sake, that it MUST be a proxy that authenticates in order to access the stored memory, not a direct call which would be result in a 400 or 401 error. The fact that Vera is lacking the authentication but Krista does have it is the cherry on top.

That's been done a few more times in S4. 1. When Darlene is leaving with Dom at the motel hugs Elliott and talks directly to mr robot who's leaning on a car nearby while walking away from Elliot and some more that i can't recall currently

One of the saddest things about the reveal is that all of those wonderful memories Elliot has of his father are all REAL. It wasn't like Mr. Robot was feeding him false memories of happiness in order to protect him. Elliot and his father truly did love and care for each other, which makes what Edward did all the more gut-wrenchingly horrifying and tragic.
@mateszucs89755 жыл бұрын
At this point, I feel like we don't fully know if those memories are really real, but I share the same opinion. It'd make sense that a father like this would always try to make it up by letting him steal money from strangers, that potentially makes his business worse. It's really sad and even though his father really was a monster, who sexually molested him, I still feel a bit sad for him. Don't ask me why.

@@KaneA87 Idk man. I think it's actually refreshing to have a show use a plot(twist) that is so 'down to earth'. In the end Mr. Robot was about mentall illness, abuse and identity: ones place in the world. The show is about so much more than it lets on, it's easy to be fooled by the flashy Fsociety action plots. This is escapism to the fullest. They delivered that quite uniquely
@kiliaeyan5 жыл бұрын
@@KaneA87 I feel you! I'm really curious as to what the 2nd viewing (in a year or so) will bring in terms of clues for the ending. At first I was a little sceptic by the abuse reveal, because it kind of felt like Esmail was retconning some established plot points. But after thinking about it and after the final episode, it felt like he was planning to do this all along (still have to do some research). It all makes sense this way, the 'main' plotline (fsociety) actually being some kind of a metaphor. I certainly don't think it was all a dream, it was a hell of a journey either way. For the 'real' Eliot and all characters involved. I kind of agree with you saying we didn't actually see the 'real' Eliot struggle with his issues. In a way that's true. I didn't really mind that, because for me the story was about trying to figure out who you are and accepting this. This is something everyone struggles with, especially those who have suffered abuse. Any abuse. This story has been less about the specific stuff Elliot went through, because, really, everyone processes these issues differently. So to me it showed how everyone (abused or no) eventually has to come to terms with who they are. This while similtaniously how fantastically bad our society is 'adapted' to help people with that. One thing's for sure: DAMN good tv indeed.

@@KaneA87 The show did what it intended. If you look back we've been hinted at this from the beginning. Elliot's trauma resulted in him having Dissociative Identity Disorder, which was portrayed the best I've ever seen or read, it's not really a fantasy. I think this ending doesn't sink well with the people that wanted the show to end up in a certain place , but I'm glad it didn't and made it something special,even more meaningful than anything else we could have hoped for.

Never has such a piece of television and film moved me so much. This was a propper 'act off', and they were all winners.

Very nice breakdown. I was awestruck after watching this episode and knew I had to give it a 10 on IMDB, soon seeing I was one of many feeling exactly the same way.

The fact that this episode is in the cinematic aspect ratio makes it so “claustrophobic” and “dark”. I love it!

I just finished the show last night... Mind blown still, so great. This video was very well made, I expected your channel would be well over 100k subs with this quality, I think there is a lot of potential here and I'll be watching more!

This episode was a hard to swallow work of art. It was by far one of the most powerful and tear jerking episodes. The cast killed it in this episode

This is the best episode of TV I've seen since ozzymandias but I will find it hard to muster the energy to rewatch it because of how fucked up and distressing it is

It was worth the wait. The final season didn't disappoint and after so many other shows fell short (some more than others) I'm glad Mr. Robot ended they way it did. The one show where almost every character had a reason to exist, and acting was top notch. Even characters that i thought would be one dimensional proved me wrong.

Vera is just a greatly written villain. He's not some big CEO. Not a world dominant group. He caused more truth to Elliot than most in all seasons. In a few final moments this overall low level villain becomes a power. Evil still, he did something giant. Actor who plays him is great.

😆😆😆 The GOT shade is real! And well deserved. 😝 I finally caved and recently watched this series. So glad I did, and was able to binge whenever I could. This breakdown of this episode is beautiful and was a welcome return to the world of Mr. Robot. I wasn't ready to fully leave after the final episode. Love the critique! 💙

As a study on story, this is how you write dialog. One of the most character driven episodes ever made.

I'm struggling to think of a single episode of TV that has impacted me as much as this. Maybe that one episode where Buffy's mum died...? Once I saw 407 I have become that raving lunatic at parties singing the praises of this stunning show. Yes it can *seem* drab with it's muted colours and dour tone but it has so much more to say.

anyone notice the lighting in most scenes you have yellow and bright orange from ornaments or bookselves or even some books, as if to signify who is in control and the moment he loses it all lights go dark

I love how Fernando Vera pretty much just inserted himself in Elliot's story as his arch nemesis. An unlikely one at that. Vera was just a ghetto kingpin/glorified pill pusher, taking over New York one street corner at a time. That is until he met Elliot. Fucked his whole shit up! Had him pinned for murder, locked in jail, forced him to kill his own brother and single-handedly crippled his entire operation. All without laying a finger on him. Vera was impressed by that shit! So much so, he became obsessed with Elliot. Partially devoted his existence to fucking *his* shit up in spite of whatever Elliot's mission was. He basically made himself the Joker to Elliot's Batman. With Vera's own twisted personality of course. A personality driven by insanity, philosophy, power and an obsession fueled by his longing for kinship throughout chaos. I can definitely see how some fans may love Vera as a character but understandably hates him as a person. And even though in the grand scheme of the show he had a very small role, he was able to make a huge impact in the story. Putting Elliot's life on pause and catching him vulnerable at the absolute worst time ever...*twice!*
