Hell, if you go back to Season 1 episode 4, while elliot is going through his withdrawals, he accidentally falls into the fake world he created for the real elliot, and proposes to Angela while holding the Bedroom key he stole from his dad to stop his dad from being able to come into his room. Then, a little bit later, Angela tells Mastermind "You are not the real Elliot", the exact same scene which plays out in Season 4 episode 13. It's genius.

What’s crazy about this twist (and really all the twists in this show) is how obvious they are upon rewatching, and yet how shocking they are in the moment. Of course Elliot was molested, explains his DID, why he doesn’t like being touched, his isolation, his inherent distrust, everything, and yet I never saw it coming.

I love that you can see the pain and heartbreak in krista’s eyes. She’s a therapist, this is her job. And yet it doesn’t make confronting someone to this repressed pain any less difficult. When Elliot confirms her suspicions she doesn’t look pleased that she was right, quite the opposite. It’s subtle but her acting in this scene makes it so much more horrific of a reveal.

its definitely not her job to uncover such a traumatic memory under duress like that. It was so abjectly painful that Elliot’s mind was forced to split into dissociative identities just to cope. She is aware of the irreparable harm forcing those buried memories to resurface, literally at gunpoint, will cause.
@VideoBastard5150 Жыл бұрын
I feel like the casting for Krista and Fernando was incredibly important for the first season, knowing how important they would be towards the end of the series. I wouldn't be surprised if they took special care for those characters in particular early on. Not to downplay the other performances in the show, but the amount of foresight required for those decisions should not go unpraised.

@TheBestCommenterEVER3 жыл бұрын
I think, at least in part, that Elliot made up just how bad his mom was. In the scene where Elliot talks to his mom in the nursing home you can easily read her sadness and regret. I'm in no way qualified to speak with authority on this but after doing some of the reading it might make sense that she's another Alter, an introjection just like Mr. Robot. The man who we had been protecting him the whole time might have been a version of his father that he would've liked to have had, a Protector Alter. Oppositely, the mother he kept seeing in those moments where he projected hatred may have been a Persecutor Alter, a sort of strict custodian to keep him in line with smaller abuses to keep him from inviting the even worse kinds of abuse he was secretly afraid of. The way he talks down to Bill with disgust and hate might have been the way Elliot sees himself, and in that scene he saw his mom talking that way to the younger version of himself. You see this sort of thing on the news sometimes: a husband charged with abusing his children, the wife complicit in the abuse, admits her guilt and confesses that she lashed out against her children whenever they tried to get her to see the truth. They can go to great lengths to deny the horrific reality of their situation.

Maybe I'm wrong, but in this scene, it seems like the real Elliot taking control of the body again, and maybe the "no, no, no" repeatedly, is Mastermind (and even the Young Elliot personality at 0:49) trying to keep Elliot away from this and failing at it. That's why Elliot come back at the final episode with the eye falling tears. Just a theory tho.

I think you're wrong. The show makes it clear that the only time the real Elliot has ever woken up was because of his connection with Darlene. This is still the Mastermind, the personality created to hold all of Elliot's negative emotions. Regarding the falling tears, the scene right before that was all his memories from his different personalities returning to the real elliot as he wakes up, so yes, he remembers everything that happened, both as Mr Robot and The Mastermind. Because in the end, they're all him anyway.
