Oh how I loved hearing that brass band knowing it would be followed by Mr Smith gardening. He could have read a telephone directory and made it sound interesting! I learned so much watching and listening to a very modest man who was without a doubt one of Englands finest gardeners.

You are absolutely right Don. I started corresponding with him the year before he had his stroke and died. He had wonderful handwriting too.

Geoffrey Smith was such an enthusiastic gardener who didn’t shy from hard work but also enjoyed the beauty of little details in plants. He was inspiring.

@@JPinFuerteventura You are a star! It really has been a delight to watch and listen to him again, plus he REALLY gets stuck in to every project, stone walls and all! Do look him up on Desert Island discs, that was a joy to listen to too! He explains in the programme how the brass band theme came about!:):)

@@juliesaraswaticelticharpgu793 Yes I have heard it. I started corresponding with him about a year before he died. His letters were a work of art, written in fountain pen.

I juts watched soem of your harp videos. Really lovely. Actually, in my latest video on my channel, I have a section showing the "Harp and 200 Candles" concert we went to at a local village.

@@JPinFuerteventura How wonderful that he replied, AND writing with a fountain pen! I too enjoy writing letters, even when they seem to take a long time to arrive! Recent letters from here to Australia took two weeks!!!

Look at him put his back into it. That's gardening mate. Today's TV mob just seem to just turn up with a dainty wee pot and a trowel, ten minutes of drivel and in it goes. All the work's been done by someone else.
