GREAT video on trans adaptation. Looking forward to wiring. Just finished stripping my crusty donor and most difficult part was the bracket under the throttle body. It is a 2 bolt, 1 nut plate/bracket and the wiring harness attaches to it with a 10mm head--bolt. Holds intake manifold for those looking to remove. Please continue with great videos as also have many vacuum hoses in this area. Thanks you again, Mr. P

Hello, thank you for your detailed guide! Can I fabricate myself the shaft and the reverse blockout? The MWR parts are expensive...

I was also wondering about this?
@Arielxx0111 ай бұрын
@@the_little_car_project Yeah I'm still thinking about that. I've got celica 2zz transmission in good shape and MR2 Spyder 6-speed transmission in worse shape. I would like to just put the celica tranmission in the car but from my understanding I can't do it with the parts I have.

@@Arielxx01the shiftrr shaft and reverse blockout are just from a 6speed mr2 transmission, so you can just reuse yours

at the 6 minute mark when you are installing the MWR cup plug. Did you install the copper colored seal cup first then install the MWR cup plug?
@StarkReality6 жыл бұрын
Nope and it became evident later. I did figure it out because it was not shifting right. Good catch.
@Raevenswood5 жыл бұрын
so that plug you put in was wrong right? per your other video that was the cap that needed that other fitting attached to the transmission first and then have that cap fitted inside that right? the part that was blocking you from going into 5th and 6th gears?
@StarkReality5 жыл бұрын
You got it. There is a copper insert that needs to stay in that hole and the plug goes into the copper insert.

do you have to change de shaft if you have a 6 speed from a Corolla/Matrix xrs with the selector behind the engine ?
@StarkReality7 жыл бұрын
Alexandre Archambault If you are putting the 6 speed in then yes you have to change the selector shaft. It will not shift correctly without it.

About that notch on the shaft, where is it when when you have it on the trans? Is it pointing down out of view? Basically, how will I know im sticking the correct side of the shaft in? Lastly, when tapping that bearing in, isn't its purpose just to hold the end of the rod (aka selector) shaft? So all I need to do is tap it in just enough to hold the shaft, right?
@StarkReality7 жыл бұрын
You are correct on the shaft bearing. It just needs to be tapped in to support the new shaft. The instructions help with the shaft placement but the easiest way to know which end goes inside is that the notch for the lift linkage is unique and needs to be on the outside.

When separating the selector mechanisms from the 5-speed, how did you get them off of the shaft? I'm trying to get the part that goes on the end of the new shaft apart from the old (5-speed) shaft so I can install it on the new (modified) shaft.

It is a little tricky. Not sure how to explain but there is a clip and I remember thinking it was the opposite of my first impression. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Same... also stuck on this... MWR’s instructions are the opposite of detailed. 1. Remove all 5 speed stuff 2. Remove all 6 speed stuff Thanks guys

Idk if this is the place to be. But I own a Toyota Celica GTS. Same engine, 2ZZ-GE. It’s an automatic but can I manual swap that car? Forget the money, can I do it? I ask because I see no one doing it online and anytime I look at trany or engine on eBay. The engines are always labeled automatic or 6 speed manual (keep in mind they don’t come with the transmission listed, just the engine) So idk if the 2ZZ engine has transmission specific variants. Anyone help me? Been asking literally everywhere.
@StarkReality5 жыл бұрын
The engine would not be different between a stick and automatic but there is definitely a lot involved in doing a manual to stick conversion. You would need a donor stick Celica GTS to raid the transmission and all of the shifter linkage etc. You probably have not seen anyone doing it because it is easier to just sell the automatic and buy a stick.
@zPoisonAssassin5 жыл бұрын
StarkReality Okay thank you. You’re probably right about nobody doing it, the cars value would be the same as doing the swap. I wanted to know just Incase down the line a donor vehicle ever comes about for a good price.

TheNameIs MWR does sell stuff for a 6sp Celica swap. Might not be worth the money though

My reverse and 1st gears are soo hard to get in.. why ? Lol
@StarkReality6 жыл бұрын
It could be a few things. Check your shifter, linkage and if they are alright you should pull the shift shaft and make sure it all went together right.

I need help. So I got a MR2 Spyder that is pass down to me and it has a 6 speed transmission swap in a 1ZZ motor. All the top gears can easily grind like reverse, 1st, 3rd, and 5th. Reverse and 3rd is the worst. It is hard to enter the gates and when I mess up it grinds. I am not sure if they rebuild the tranny before putting it in, but someone said I needed a JDM part to put under the shifter or around the shifter to make the adjustment perfect and more smooth. Is it true? If so do you know the part? 2nd, 4th, and 6th are fine. So right now i am just revving out 2nd gear to get enough speed to skip 3rd and go into 4th to avoid 3rd since that is the worst gear to shift into. Or do i need to rebuild the tranny? I mean i can survive with it right now, but it is not as fun when i cant up and down shift to 3rd without having to worry about grinding.
@StarkReality6 жыл бұрын
Did the gears ever work smoothly? If not then maybe the conversion has something wrong with the shift shaft. If it used to be smooth then you may need a rebuild.
