MR2 POWER STEERING FAULT

Hi I just want to say a big thank you, mine just went this morning and this by-pass really worked, I am so grateful for people like yourself who go out of there way to make these videos for numpties like myself.

This has been a common issue with the MR2 SW20’s it comes about from hard suspension and constant rough roads the power steering relay builds up slag on the contact points and you loss power steering! the easy way to resolve this is to cycle the ignition on and off a few times till you hear the rely click on and off this usually fixes the problem with in a couple of cycles if not just repeat till it is resolved it saves you having to replace the rely.

Great tip. I have had an issue with my power steering. I fully charged the battery and its all working again. Just that you pointed out that the negative terminal was not tight.

Watched this video back when you released it, before i had an MR2 preempting any issues i may have. 3 years down the line, my power steering gave up & i knew exactly what to do because of this video & it worked. (I keep a 10mm in my glove box 😉) Cheers Jus :D

The SW20’s power steering pump is supposed to turn off above a certain speed as the lift of the nose makes the steering light. Or that’s what I was once told anyway

Doesn't the power steering motor turn off at speed? So your running the motor continuous, any stories of motors burning out?

I understand what you've done but I wondering what triggers the relay to power up? I have a 91 and it's a random thing and always wondered what triggers it to come on. Another KZbinr showed a steering column sensor that was causing his problems.

Tried this but still hard to turn. Can hear the PS pump working & it's easier to turn the wheels when engine on! Fluid not touching dipstick but can still see it in the reservoir. Hopefully will top it up tomorrow.

Hi I noticed the steering wheel really stiff and the guy who I bought it off said its the aftermarket steering wheel I think he is lying ive got a mr2 mk2 turbo
