It's unbelievable how you are able to coordinate all this works. I'm watching how you do this project for second time already and I enjoy it like a good movie 😄

I like how you built the front of the dormer. There's some good tips in this series for everyone 👍
@Mr_A_Builders2 жыл бұрын
Morning mate, hope you're well. It's a great way of not working on a cramped scaffolding and carting all the materials up there. Have a great weekend mate.

Brilliant job lads. Pity the camera overheated but still get the idea from the pre-built woodwork. 👌

Looks like good work! Interesting order of doing things but I can see why you did it. One small critique is that the corners will probably be a bit tricky to insulate, look up California corners for the future.

Did you chem fix bolt the sole plate into the sloped bricks?
@amazing4512 жыл бұрын
At point 0.30 on the video Rich said that the steel was 75mm down from the ridge is that to allow for the furling strips ?
@Mr_A_Builders2 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s to allow the total height of roof coverings inc. Furrings strips, plywood, rubber membrane and also so as not to run straight into the ridge and make it difficult to fit ridge tiles later. Thanks for commenting Kevin 👍🏻

@@Mr_A_Builders Thanks for the reply I'm bingeing my way through this series 👍

Any reason why the dormer is able to rest on the existing wall? I’ve seen some engineers ask to put in a steel to rest on top of the wall.

How waterproof is that Tyvek. Ok to use instead of a tarp over the top of my roof? Ta
@Mr_A_Builders Жыл бұрын
Tyvek is waterproof and breathable so all good. It’s what it’s designed for. 👍🏻

Would I be correct if I guessed Twenty grand as cost for scaffolding (Hired).

Header plates should be put in vertical not horizontal. Wouldn’t pass BC
@Mr_A_Builders Жыл бұрын
Morning Jez, hope you're well. I think you may be getting your terminology or your horizontals/verticals mixed up. Thank you for watching.
@jeztickles4361 Жыл бұрын
@@Mr_A_Builders 🤣 the headers that you’ve doubled up on the dormer wall, should be installed vertically not laid flat…
@Mr_A_Builders Жыл бұрын
Ah yes, I see what you mean now, sorry! So if you were doing this job you would've turned them on end (vertically)? What size timbers would you have used?
@jeztickles4361 Жыл бұрын
@@Mr_A_Builders indeed! Headers should always be installed vertically (on end) and be tripled. We normally use 5x2 or 6x2
@Mr_A_Builders Жыл бұрын
I see your point, but that would massively comprise the head height of the window. If we did what you suggest then the top of the window would be below everyone's head! You'd have to stoop down to look through them! Add the fact that this has been passed by building control, I don't think that there's an issue here at all.
