Commodore 64 Part 3 - oh no, another fault!

How exciting. Please test the expected faulty VIC-II on an another unit / test board. When you were removing it did hit me that perhaps that chip wasn't fully placed on it's socket. Many thanks for the C64 series :)

I think it was. It bothers me the chunk that was missing out of it. When I next get a breadbin come my way, I will test it.

My money would have been on the PLA or RAM. A faulty VIC is a bit unusual in my experience!

I agree. Rarely seen a duff 6510. It happens...

No xBox will survive 40 years. At best the internet they rely on will be offline, at worst the hardware will have failed. I had to change the optical drive in a PS4 recently and it was a nightmare to work on. Constructed of so much unnecessary cheap plastic, full of security screws made of the softest possible metal easily stripped, bent metal bits holding other bent metal bits that snap when you look at them funny, fragile connectors, hair-thin flex cables and piss-poor soldering. These old things were built well and you can actually fix them.
