Hi. I just wanted to thank you. You didn’t discuss how you felt about the prejudice that the LGBTQ community suffers on a daily basis, but the fact that you didn’t make a “stank face”, seeing two men kissing, is a testament to how evolved & tolerant you are. And, even though you still haven’t invested in some decent headphones yet (you really must, my dude), I am now a ride or die member. Kudos! And, stay safe 🖤

Such a great song by a wonderful Irish singer. I think Hozier has said he wrote this after a bad breakup. The video addresses anti-gay prejudices but the lyrics can apply to any relationship. Also highly, highly recommend his song Movement, incredibly sensual and so full of soul. I'm loving your first few reaction videos - thanks so much!

I love this song, but have a difficult time watching it’s official video. When you marginalize people, whenever you create an “us versus them” mentality that encourages people to think of another group of people as their enemy, it makes it that much easier to commit atrocities against them. After all, they are evil and not like you, so they must deserve it. I am seeing far too much of this and it makes me sick and angry. As hard as this is to watch, it’s important to bring this to light and I am so glad that he did it.

You seem to have a strong appreciation for music and the human voice so I would love to suggest Disturbed and their cover of "The Sound of Silence," there are two versions one is the official video the other is their live performance on Conan. You will be stunned! If you have never heard of them also listen to " Down With the Sickness and Into the Fire" to get a feel for their origins. I would also like to suggest Five Finger Dearh Punch "Blue on Black & Wrong Side of Heaven. " these are heavy songs but certainly worth a listen!!!

These two men have not sinned, they are in love. And it doesn't matter. Sometimes the church is the evil. In fact, every often it is. That is what Hozier is singing about. It's about persecution of gays everywhere. The treasure box contains their love for each other which homophobes do not understand, and they never can take it or understand it. That's why they can't open it or burn it or damage it no matter what they do. It makes me cry every time I listen. My four-year-old granddaughter cried and said, "Why, Nee-nee? Why are they hurting them? Those boys just love each other!" I said, "I know, honey. It's not fair. No one should do that to them." She's not hateful or prejudiced against gay people. She wasn't taught to be, so she's not. The church preaches hate and gets richer and richer. Those men cannot even keep the simple treasure of their love.

Lyrically, "Take Me to Church" is a metaphor, with the protagonist comparing his lover to religion. The song grew out of Hozier 's frustration with the Catholic Church which, as somebody raised in the Protestant Quaker faith, he saw as dominating the social and political outlook of the Irish state

The church has betrayed his confession of homosexuality, told he was born Sick and refuses absolution. The "She" he speaks of represents the straight female sex the church will accept. The box holds the secrets of his homosexuality which he buries but it gets out anyway. He is persecuted and denied the basic need of every human being. Loving and being loved. I weep for them.
