reminds me of my first rear axle cover removal video. One of the few times my son helped and of course the cover took a beating before coming off

Coincidentally enough, we just had to take the rear diff cover off of this thing a couple months back because it ate and axle bearing which also destroyed the axle.

Thank you Aaron. I appreciate that. Most of our videos while certainly not perfect are there to help someone do a job themselves.

I have to do this job again after replacing my perfectly working Ford OEM with gates as "preventive maintenance" when I replaced the pulleys and tensioner in late December. fast forward to Sunday, February 5th, and the gates pump is weeping coolant. I saw a little puddle under my car. I ordered the Motorcraft PW464. hopefully, it'll last longer than the gates. or at least the 155k miles when removed. and remember, it was still working well. 2 things I would do differently on my car. to each their own. use at least a 2lb hammer on the old pump, right where the pulley attaches to, to bang said pump. to not run the risk of marring or damaging the engine cover where the pump sits. and secondly, I would use silicone grease or spray on the O-ring, since rubber and petroleum-based lube don't get along too well, to ensure a proper seal for the life of the pump. As others have mentioned. clean engine bay. no corrosion on the timing chain cover and PCM like the salt belt vehicles. 👍✌

Thanks for the tips midas! Will keep them in mind if there is ever a next time. Hopefully you can fix yours for good....

Should you have used antifreeze to lube the o ring? To each his own.

Yeah BST this car is just a cream puff. It only had 62k miles on it when we got it. It has 71k now. Thanks again for your video showing the noise these things can make when the bearings take a dump lol.

had the same problem with my 2011 getting the pump out

Sadly the oring on the new pump only lasted a year before it disintegrated and started leaking. It literally fell out the second time. We had to go back in and put a new Ford oring on it. No leaks since.

Hey I got a question! What kind of lubricant was you using to put around the O-ring on the water pump ?
@PNW_Car_Mods Жыл бұрын
I honestly can't remember. Was either motor oil or transmission fluid. If you block is really rust pitted you may want to use a film of silicone instead. Something to consider.

Now try changing the water pump on any ford 3.5/3.7L V6! You will have to pull the engine out and take off the timing chains. "Fix Or Repair Daily". Just kidding lol.
@PNW_Car_Mods2 жыл бұрын
I tell you what and I'm being totally honest here. When it comes to an engine like that it would not be in our long term ownership category. That would be a lease engine or short term ownership and trade in. Same goes with timing belts. Well except for my Samurai. I can change the timing belt on that in 15 minutes lol. The mod motor v8 is bad enough for long term reliability with it's monkey motion timing chain setup but it works for now haha. Anything ever happens to this engine and it will be swapped out for something else. Likely LS based.
