I put a Yamaha 570cc 2 stroke engine from a 1990 Yamaha Exciter snowmobile in a 1994 Yamaha G4 golf cart with a lift kit & some nice knobby off road tires etc. about 10yrs ago. Crazy fast without a roll cage & no front brakes! YIKES! LOL :-) Lots of fun though. I was surprised the stock rear diff held up just fine. I really like that gearbox though. I just need to freshen up the engine on mine with a new piston & rings kit & fabricate a roll cage & some front brakes. Makes me want to go out in the garage & get back at it, thanks for sharing! Nice build so far, my 1st video of yours, gonna check out the others.

Might be interesting to run a shaft drive from the bike motor to the gearbox then it can be used as a drop box to run in 4wd. Also been thinking of doing the same thing using a manual transmission from a FWD car, just rotated 90 degrees. so CV outputs run front to back.

I am in the design stages of some dual-purpose machines and the forward-reverse aspect of the build had me slightly perplexed so this was super informative. I think that gearbox would be overkill for the small buggies I am going to build my grandsons, as they will be using pit bike engines, but for the big buggies that my sons and I plan to build this will be perfect providing it isn't 2/3rds the cost of my budget Lol! Great work! Why not mount the breather filter upside down with a loop of hose extending a few inches higher than the actual filter? As it sits if the filter gets dirty (imagine that) and debris enters the hose it will be directed directly into the gearbox by gravity. With a loop higher than the filter any debris must defy gravity to enter the hose and fall into the gearbox. I'm assuming the "breathing" of the gearbox is very gradual as it heats or cools and there is no significant air velocity to factor in. And of course, when things break (they often do) having that little loop higher than the (now tossed down the trail) filter eliminates purchasing another $3,500 gearbox. Oh, and don't forget water. It goes downhill, generally. Cheers!!

If you were using it to feed differentials, that would lower the stress that this would see, because of the gear reduction past it. So, yes.
@nobrakes4255 жыл бұрын
Awesome I've also been thinking about getting 3 rear differentials (preferably) so I can CV shafts as drive shafts to a front and rear differential with cvs going from those to the wheels. Also thinking maybe could get a axle and run it sideways with cut down housings to differentials w/Cvs to wheels but that's alot of weight and I'm not sure how to work out the hearing I'd need in the center diff that goes the output shaft of the motor where a sprocket would normally by
@nobrakes4255 жыл бұрын
Also I ideally would like to use a 250 cc engine I have laying around but I'm just not sure its feasible with all that rotating mass of 6 CV shafts and 3 differentials but also I think itd only be feasible this way cause I can adjust the gearing to whatever i need by changing out the center diff or the gear sets inside if i cant find a diff the correct ratio. The 250 also has a 4 speed transition on it. It is from a cheap quad

The arrangement at 17:40 is fine to trim the drive chain but it is not an anti-twist structure as the extension bolts and the sheet metal work will flex vertically if the gearbox twists. Some higher thinking is required to make an anti-twist structure to aid that gearbox but most probably the gearbox alone can take what punishment it is offered.
@ianparr58995 жыл бұрын
Agree, and needs a diagonal (or 2) to resist twist. (think airplane fuselage, or wing, construction.).. so use turnbuckle to adjust chain tension only. (only needs a lightweight unit). Also use a riveted link chain as split link is a point of failure in anything over about 50hp. (ask me how I know).hehe

The shaft is as hard as a standard motorcycle counter shaft. I believe the sprockets are a bit softer (they show more wear). I have over 150 hours on my RPM box without significant spline wear. I'm also running close to 200hp in a 1300 lb car.
@iaalaska5 жыл бұрын

The diff has fuck all got to do with ns wheel lifting that's shocks an chassis ,lock diff just drives both wheels all the time same as each other, open diff naer side wheel wen in a turn rotates less than outside wheel = SLIP DIFF, ,on a lock diff it causes oversteer easier AS the inside wheel is spinning in correspondence with outer wheel travelling furter ,likely causing regular oversteer in tighter corners using a fully locked diff car , LIMIT SLIP diff is best of both worlds ,easier to live with ie tyres an predictability so is more fun, trust me,

is there an option with diferential?
@motomule4 жыл бұрын
Not sure??? That would be a nice option..

It seems like this could work for a tracked vehicle too, with a hydraulic motor.

Maybe, but not a skid steer, it has no differential. Thanks for watching Kevin!!!

Nice mounting bracket. What about oil in the gearbox? Is it OK to have the gearbox tipped at that angle assuming that their logo is the zero plane/angle? All the oil would collect into the output portion of the drive with no oil in the input gears.

I was hoping to see the reverse linkage.

Soon, the weather is starting to improve, so I can get back to work on this project!!! 😁

Did the gearbox come with the oil level check window, or did you install it? If it came installed by the factory, does the factory have a prescribed orientation for the gearbox for proper check window orientation and proper oil function? If you intalled the check window, how did you determine where to put it? When tilting the gearbox to adjust chain tension, won't that change the orientation of the check window? What orientation will the buggy need to be in, in order for the gearbox to be in the oroper orientation to check the oil level?

Hi! I don't know much about transmissions and all that, but, if you've ever heard of the 2005-2016 show Lights Motor Action in Disney Hollywood Studios they show that they have a special transmission that allows them to have 4 forward gears and 4 reverse gears by the turn of their stick shift. Is that basically how this works? They're Hayabusa 1300 swapped 150hp rally cars btw lol :)

Probably something similar. Sound like fun cars!!!

@@motomule They definitely are fun cars! only 1300lbs and Mid Engined, with 4 wheel to 2 wheel option drive, (they usually used 2 in the show) but yeah, the show still runs in Paris atleast as Moteurs Action!

Can you perhaps tell me what that gearbox sells for please?
@motomule2 жыл бұрын
It was about $2000 back when I got it.

My question is how are you going to shift from forward to reverse with the shift shaft behind everything?
