As a kid growing up in the 70's Im sure my teachers wouldve told the story of athens to us, had it not been suppressed We got plenty about big brother, & the history of power, corruption, & oppression of ordinary people from roman times, the dark ages, through to english & american history. George orwell's _1984_ was a common choice for a book report As we grew up into the 80's, the theme of gov corruption as a root cause of domestic & international warfare continued, as we were shown hundreds of hours of newsreels & documentaries about WWI, hitler's third reich, stalin, WWII, the introduction of nuclear power, hiroshima & nagasaki, & vietnam. These years of study peeled away the rosey angelic image where most history books wouldve still had us holding blind loyalty to it. This was re-inforced by my church teaching me to guard against the sweeping influence of nationalism & its unquenchable bloodthirst. To never idolize ANY government Power, wealth, & greed are the forever inescapable corruptions of humans & their governments. It is only patriots standing for their neighbors & for their own freedom that keeps this evil from overtaking us all We must never forget these lessons, because anyone failing to learn this falls victim to propaganda, prejudice, & hate, & is easily manipulated by such things

@@scottholliday9308 I think you missed when I said, "no one thinks America is a direct democracy"? have you ever heard of a colloquialism? its where a word is used in a casual conversation to refer to something other than its original meaning. A good example is the word "theory". colloquially, a theory is any thought experiment or idea on how something could work, whereas in the science world a theory is a thoroughly tested idea that represents the highest standard something can reach in science. In this case, the colloquial term would be "democracy" where the term is used to refer to the ability of one to effectively vote, whether it be for a representative, head executive, or for laws, when the technical definition refers to a specific type of government system. also, you used the wrong "their" multiple times, but that doesn't actually affect your argument.

There is an official book about the battle in which I found my great uncles name. I had no idea he was IN the Battle of Athens until I found his name listed in its pages. He was a World War II veteran but also one of the deputies. There are still bullet marks in some of the buildings.

Logistics is a complicated mess in peace time. Just think how bad it would get in a civil war!

I have been PREACHING this historical event for years, i am so happy you are talking about this, please talk about the Posse Comitatus Act, restricting government from intervening during civil issues, only people that could intervene would be local and state law enforcement. Federal government is not allowed to get involved with civil issues. National Guard receives federal funding and acts as a federal entity.
@SoloPilot62 ай бұрын
Not quite. The National Guard was Federalized by Woodrow ("He Kept Us From War") Wilson, the "Progressive" racist who saved the Ku Klux Klan from extinction. As a component of GARA (Guard, Active, Reserve and Auxiliary) it can be called to war by the President and Congress, thus is equipped, trained and administered as if it were part of the Army. However, it is SEPARATE from the Army, directed by the state governors, thus not included in Posse Comitatus.
@Kid_Twist_2 ай бұрын
@@SoloPilot6 I can argue many reason why you can consider National Gaurd as a Federal enity. 1. Federal funding: The National Guard receives most of its funding from the federal government, which indicates a significant level of federal control and influence. 2. Federal training and equipment: National Guard units receive training and equipment from the federal government, which ensures standardization and interoperability with federal forces. 3. Federal mission: The National Guard's primary mission is to support federal military operations, both domestically and overseas. 4.Federal command structure: When federalized, National Guard units fall under the command of federal authorities, such as the Department of Defense and the President. 5. Integration with federal forces: National Guard units often train and deploy alongside federal forces, blurring the lines between state and federal authority. Given these points, it's reasonable to argue that the National Guard has become a de facto federal force, despite its historical roots in state militias. The wordage and intention may have originated from a state-focused perspective, but the National Guard's modern role is undeniably federal in nature.

What the federal government can do, and what the federal government can do legally, are two very different things.
@SoloPilot62 ай бұрын
@@Kid_Twist_ To be a Federal entity, there would have to be a bill passed through Congress and signed by a President. This has never happened. This is why governors are able to either deploy the NG or refuse deployment.

@jamesbosworth41912 ай бұрын
@billyrayhoscheit1775 It doesn't. When people say "God given", they mean inalienable. It does say, though, that we are endowed certain inalienable rights by their creator. To many people, "creator" means God.
@jamesbosworth41912 ай бұрын
@billyrayhoscheit1775 It was indeed written down on paper by men, and voted on by men, but it was supposed to be a list of rights that can not be legislated away, either by congress nor by being put for a vote of the population. Congress can indeed pass laws, and the president can sign them into law, giving us additional rights, but, THOSE rights can be repealed, either by legislation or by the voters. Our CONSTITUTIONAL rights can not, EXCEPT by an amendment to that constitution, and the bar for that is pretty high, to make sure that it isn't amended left and right according to the whims of the times.

Much more recently, in Oak Harbor, Washington, the city council there wanted to ban the carry of firearms. A whole bunch of armed citizens showed up the next day, and a lot of them spoke in front of the city council, making their arguments, but by far, the most persuasive argument the people made that day was 'if you make this law, we will just game-end all of you and the new people in your place will know better.' Turns out, threatening politicians with violence works.
