Love the story however and take this with a laugh plz cause I find it amusing but didn't Elon sell a flame thrower, ik you can pick up replica ww2 for about 1500 in some states if not 50 bmg does wonders on armored plate. Hell just borrow Jerry from the gas station he can clear the infestation for probably 400 bucks. As scary as this is my male doom eternal brain would kill for someone, cackling, shooting out dragons breath( 20 foot fire ball out of a 12 gauge).

Honestly Character driven horror with no one in the main cast dying is so rare because if you don't do it right it doesn't come off as horror so much as spooky adventure. A lot of horror either leans on people dying or the main characters being so awesome that the feeling of horror is lost.

okay, so I hadn't listened to any of the story in this part until recently, but I'd always gotten the vibe of like...subtext between Evelyn and Jennifer, like that Evelyn at least thought of them as "more than friends", but it wasn't really confirmed until about halfway through this section. That kind of adds even another layer of feels to that whole thing for me (and it already brought up a lot of feels for me considering I've unfortunately had the experience of losing my best friend). Also, as a recovering opioid addict, the idea of some kind of paranormal force that just makes the thing you're addicted to appear in front of you, again and again, is probably the most terrifying thing in this whole story. Like I don't even know what I would do if some kind of eldritch horror made it so that heroin would just appear out of nowhere in my house every day.

No there's no subtext before Jennifer. She was Evelyn's best friend and was kicked to the curb because of her alcoholism. Evelyn has no family other than a resentful mom. And she drank to forget her father's face in the woods. She was missing her friend. Lol If anything, fins hints and her curling up with Daniel is the subtext.

Binged this in a week at work. Very good writing with excellent character development. Narration was superb, I think these two could read the phonebook together and make people smile. I'm very interested to see where it goes next, if it continues. I would hope the story grows like the characters. I think we understand what the forest can do, now we need the why. Is it just this place or are there at least 1045 places just like it? Why does the government ignore it instead of fire bombing the forest out of existence? It would be good to starting building towards the "why is it happening" bit.
