Hello Gary, it's a bit like metal detecting on the beach in some ways and understanding about layers. There are some places where you can get permits etc to gold pan and other places seem to be well know for panning but no permits are appear to needed.

You sparked my interest, but after researching a bit, I came across this in the UK Gov website: "Gold and silver are classed as 'Mines Royal'. ... You will also need permission from The Crown Estate to take away gold that you may have found or discovered, whatever the method you have used. However, if you find gold through panning it is unlikely that The Crown Estate will grant you permission to take it away." So how do you go about legally panning for gold?

This is a subject that needs greater clarity on what is acceptable and about who turns a blind eye. All I can say on the matter is this - You can go to Leadhills, the Mennock or Bail an Or for example, you can get permits to gold pan. Some place such as in the Northern Pennines, the local authorities wanted to promote gold panning to boost their tourism industry. The camp site in Tyndrum encourages panning in the river that flows through the grounds. At the end of the day it's a great hobby where no body is going to get rich and will more than likely lead to you getting bad knees and a bad back after a few sessions in a dirty creek.

0.4g of gold is worth £30 on the market. 8hr day, plus say £10 costs equates to roughly £2.50 an hour (after £10 costs), for labour intensive back-breaking work in a very cold environment. A labour of love, and an interest to be outdoors. But hey, he might get lucky and find a pocket of gold, but unlikely in the UK. Nice video - and best of luck MrDazP1

Having spent my time at work all week I find the time spent at the river to be priceless. This location no longer allows gold panning, however you can get a licence or a permit to go to places in Scotland such as Leadhills, Wanlockhead and Baile an Or.

Yeah it's all about the stunning scenery pal. This river is one that panners just turn up to without permission buddy. Other rivers in the uk you can pay a few dollars ( queen quids ) for a yearly permit which is fair enough. There is some very good gold over here , I just haven't found any yet lol but can I thank you for watching and commenting, it's really appreciated.

Haha, some times the backpack is ridiculously heavy but it gives me options , sluicing, sniping, crevicing etc. A good wife is always an asset for carrying your equipment . Cycling 250 miles a week keeps us fit anyway. Best of luck your self pal.

Strictly speaking you need permission and over the years this lace seems to have been accepting that panning goes on. Sadly there are signs up now prohibiting it. I would probably go off grid a bit and look for nice secluded areas where no one will bother you Dave.

Here's a hint that I learned from my old tiney partner. Put a layer of black plastic garbage can liner in the bottom of the box then a layer of burlap on top of that they your normal carpet, The fines will work their way under the carpet with black sand and the burlap will trap it And at the end of the season you can burn the burlap and pan the ashes.

I don't do it for the money at all Ian, I have a full time job which means I am busy busy through the week and my career so far has been another fantastic journey. They reckon the gold is worth £100 / g And others may say 3 times as much. I just love it as a hobby and it's a great subject to film. For me it's a great way to forget about a tough week at work . By the way, never take up cycling as a hobby . It will drain your pocket of money just as quick as you have earned it. But we all need to look forward to something for the weekends. This is a gold bearing river in an area know to have the correct geology Pat. I dare say that any river could carry gold but it may be so small , you would never see it . That's the beauty of prospecting though. You just never know.

Hi Ikram, you need to make a suction pump out of standard drainage pipe with a tennis ball fixed to an 8mm threaded rod. This will help to suck the gravels up from the river. You also need a strong crowbar to lift big rocks out of the way.

Not a fat lot Daniel to be honest, I fly my drone and mess about too much with all my cameras when I'm at the river to actually find anything that's consistently good. I also spend a lot of time chatting to people at the rivers so never get a full day in. I have met some people though who have found a lot of gold - and I mean a lot !

Hello Brit Chaser.They reckon the Northern Pennines is the place to head for. Nenthead is supposed to be good for mineralised deposits. Being in Warrington though you could drive down the M56 and hit the rivers somewhere near Abergele. I haven's been to either of these locations yet but there should be gold ......

I know what you mean about the weather, when I was planning the last trip I kept looking at the forecasts and one would contradict another. I had some "Big ideas" for annual leave in February but my week off ended up with me cleaning the skirting boards with baby wipes and sorting out my sock drawer, oh and moving stuff from one part of my shed to the other. So I achieved nothing other than a bit of spring cleaning lol. The weather was really bad !! and I was well P#ssed off. If you are going to do a workshop this year let us know. @@MrDazP1adv3ntures Ah, that's so interesting. I'm sure you're a busy guy but you should do a video about the different metals that you find in the different places in the UK. I know you have to play to the algorithm but I would find that interesting at least! I looked it up and the teflon case, where they were pumping some seriously harmful stuff into the river, was due to something called PTFE, thankfully that's been banneed in EU countries since 2015, so that shouldn't be a problem! No idea if that's what caused the bleaching tho! so maybe still something they let out (though hopefully not as harmful!)

What a careless act of them doing something like that ! I worked for a company a few years ago where the regional river agency tracked the source of dead trout found in the local water courses was due to textile dye pollution from the processing plant going directly into a feeder stream. They had the power to shut down the facilty there and then. The problem was quickly fixed but it should never have happened in the first place.

The camping side is a great way to do it but be mindful of the midges, most rivers also have signs up saying no fishing though, but they don't say no gold panning Joey

U probably hear this all the time. I watch all ur vids and remember the first bit of gold you ever found. It was really small but u was so excited and ever since I have wanted to experience that rush of prospecting 4 gold and finding my own bit. I have brought my panning equipment and a sluice box and some tools e.c.t. but the only thing iam collecting is dust lol. I have yet to go to a proper place to go to. But it's really hard for me to get to places as I dnt drive and live in the south east of kent witch wasn't such a good plan as I didnt think about this at the time. I was just soo excited to of brought my own prospecting tools and the thought of finding my first bit of gold. I dnt want to buy pay dirt as u never no how much gold u will find and plus it's about the buzz of digging working for what I find. I have asked for ur advice as I no u will answer my questions as I see u always try and reply to ur fans. What I would like to no is. Is there people who are in the same situation and if so is there any coach trips they do or even better if I could meet someone who would like to team up with me. Iam 45yrs of age and not getting any younger lol. And is on top of my bucket list iam not very good with places to go apart from.devon.scotland.pennines.wales.ect.but not sure on any rivers.streams.brooks and so on. And this day and age it's not always what u no.but helps heaps on who u no. What I would do to b ur apprentice lol.what a dream come true. Hello Hollie, I would advise that you have a look on the FaceBook gold panning forums in the UK etc or the British gold panning association for any links. Leadhills also has a mining museum where you can get panning courses too. And yes, you are right about the excitement, no matter how big or how small it's always a great feeling to see natural gold in your pan. DT prospecting also does panning workshops a few times in the year which is another great way to get the support and coaching you might need.
