Where i live in northeast Pennsylvania in the US, its VERY common to put syrup on sausage. Its the best thing, no matter what flavor the sausage is (elk,beef,deer, or even the spices put into the sausage) we put syrup on it. Its the best and the only way to eat it😊

I put the maple syrup on the muffin top and it was really good. I also put some on the pork and loved it. The pop tart is MUCH better toasted in a toaster. Apple butter is always kind of dark...even the fresh stuff. I live in Wisconsin where we make a LOT of apple butter. The granola was pretty good too. This is my breakfast MRE of choice. Nice video!

Jan Thomas It is now Menu #17, and in 2014 the sides were the Maple Muffin Top, Cheese Spread, Crackers, and Nuts and Raisins Mix. All else the same. Oddly, they put both of the "breakfast" meals in the B case, and none in the A case of meals. I personally think there should be four breakfasts, two in each case.

Hi - love your vids and reviews/comments on MREs. Question - why do you consistently mix sugar and creamer with the (oh so good, needed, desired and expected) coffee? Why not try some coffee "by itself"? I submit that many people, most perhaps, have coffee without the accessory packs, at least regular enough to question reviews with sugar/creamer used constantly...I admit its an acquired taste.

Am I the only one who is thinking that this whole meal is just empty calories? Once the sugar high wears off, I imagine the soldier would be ready to eat his or her boots. I know most are carb heavy, but this just looks exceptionally so.
@truthfilter9 жыл бұрын
Samidella idella that's what i'm wondering would you actually feel full and satisfied ?
@CPTAwesome90009 жыл бұрын
Coming from my experiences with MREs and having to eat them as my only option, as long as you don't eat the whole thing and you pick wisely (no vegetarian.... God no vegetarian) then these do the job pretty well tbh. My favorite is the meatball and marinara and I end up destroying a toilet afterwords but what do you expect. These aren't that bad.
@Andy-im3kj8 жыл бұрын
They're certainly not empty calories, as they are manufactured to have a surplus of caloric value, whereas to provide the necessary caloric energy required for the amount of work done in the field. And I can tell you doing what you do as a military servicemember, especially infantrymen, you bust your ass doing your job, and MREs definitely provide essential fuel for your day.
@samidellaidella5328 жыл бұрын
Andy Flores i believe you misunderstood. What I was referring to is this particular MRE derives its calories mostly from sugar. In my opinion, this particular MRE is a poor excuse for a meal. Hence the "empty calories" from sugar. Empty calorie taking on the usual meaning, ie sugary junk food. Sugar might give you an initial rush of energy, but the sugar high is also inevitably met with a lethargy later on. Not particularly advantageous to a soldier in the field that might not get another timely meal until much later on in the day. If your opinion is that this is a "good" breakfast for our troops, so be it. I will disagree, the US gov. can provide a better breakfast option that this particular meal that is hearty and not sugar laden and filled with empty calories.

Final comment - I agree with your assessment of the syrup - not something field suitable and a bit much for the overall flavor spectrum of the MRE. Doesn't really need it, as you state, alhto surely a welcome item for sweet tooths. You are a good reviewer - thanks for your posted vids. Highly enjoyable and educational. You have a good process, I think.

Captain Obvious I had the same experience. The old brown bags (including the dreaded four fingers of death and chicken a la s**t...) seem awful now, but when they were new and your only alternative to starving or eating bugs and bark, they were pretty darn good. And they've only improved over the years!

That's a lot of sweets! I think they should include a bread... like the bridgeford breads they use but make it a Biscuit type to make a breakfast sandwich...
@gschultz95 жыл бұрын
You know, a biscuit would go GREAT with this! They did make a biscuit for a few years, but only included it with the Pork Sausage in Cream Gravy (and only for one year) and the Beef Brisket. For some unknown reason they discontinued the biscuit quite a few years back. Maybe there was some good reason (they didn't age as well as other bread products? they were prone to crumbling?), but I would really like to see them back in MREs again.

@ogbobbye9 жыл бұрын
you said you didn't understand the need of the syrup you need to look at these mre as fuel not food. the reason they would put the syrup in a meal that is to taste already sweet is the added calories giving you more energy. Taste and appearance is less important than the main goal of the MRE which is of course to keep a soldier going in combat. You do very good reviews but keep in mind the real reason for all the the stuff in a MRE is to put fuel into the body.

I don't like this one due to that fact to being so messy with the syrup sometimes exploding.
@gschultz99 жыл бұрын
wooduu Yeah, like I mentioned in the video there could be some use for the syrup, but I just found it unnecessary. It's like they just threw it in because it was a "breakfast-y" thing to do. And it really does seem like a bad thing to have when you're in the field. It's pretty thin, so it runs all over the place and makes anything in its way sticky.
