MRE: United Nations Ration Pack (CRP) ~24 Hours~

Huge Shout out to Roger for sending this! This review is a 24 hour ration from the United Nations. It is a called a CRP or Combat Ration Pack but it designed to be used for Peacekeepers and peacekeeping operations around the world. Water rehydration makes perfect sense. If you dehydrate water (a bit like freeze dried rations) then you can carry several litres for almost no weight or space in a ziplock bag. All you do in the field is add water. Simple, efficient and logical.

3 years later I can still taste that damn hyperprotein drink. BTW here in Croatia we use a lot alcohol vinegar along with wine vinegar, balsamic and apple vinegar... Thanks for the review!

Great review Gundog! The mains in this looked quite good, and it is nice to see something new and interesting. The chicken sausages and vegetables looked very hearty. I keep thinking i have had those biscuits before and i agree they were not very salty at all. Thanks for sharing!

Glad to hear that the quality has improved. I've had this menu earlier - it was packed in a green bag and called menu A western. It was the worst ration (in terms of taste) I've ever had - and the most expensive I have bought. Except of the chickpeas stew and candies (plus some minor items) everything was either unedible or disgusting.

HERETIC! Mexican sauce on Hungarian Goulash???? Got a small laughter because this ration is the exact opposite of the last one you reviewed. In fact this time I doubt I could indulge everything. This may be a real kind of "emergency" ration to have at hand in a desaster scenario. Very cool. And, as always, great review!

Nice review Gundog. Nice to hear and see someones other oponion about the UN rations. I had exactly the same meal half a year ago in a green bag. The mains were okay to me.Also the side items. I would give them a 8/10. The drinks were not that good. The tea and the coffee was a little bit weak. The hyper fiber drinks, i definitely had better ones. All in all it was good except the cold drinks

Hey gundog, Brother in Arms ! Did you played with trioxane fuel bars back in the days and got some stories To Tell ? I served the Luftwaffe with the esbit stove and still Love it But Trioxane is the purple devil! That stuff is awesome :) prost from West Germany !

I only got to use the standard esbit stove and tabs and only when I was with the Heer for EPa's. I did buy a few packs 5 or 6 years ago and they worked real well. For some reason using stoves to heat your food isn't a big thing US Soldiers and Marines that eat the bulk of them. Prost my German Brotha!

With the new 18/19 EPA rations esbit stoves are Out of Fashion i guess everything is just As dehydradet than most of y'all stuff.. me serving and having basic Training at Luftwaffe we hadnt hat EPA's we Had fancy Field Kitchen in the Morning and lunch and we Had To get ourselves some instand noodles for the Night .. i got epa's from Heer comrades when i got from basic To My regular Department which was a media/ Television studio at the armes forces near Bonn :)

Most of the items within last longer than any date on the bag. Same with commercial items, the "expiration dates" are more for logistics, contracts and procurement purposes. Cheers

I kind of like how most other countries use a mess kit/ fuel tab stove. It takes a little longer but the food gets a lot more evenly heated. That being said, a FRH like the Japanese use would be awesome for this.

People sometimes say that the Russian IRPs and Czech BPDs are good and tastier than the US but the fact is they look like crap . Tbh as a Czech i must say they are not horrible but this one looks really really good and appetizing .. i mean look at the pasta. Infact all of the things in the ration seem to look like tasty food from A-B lvl restaurant ... we eat with our eyes first afterall

One thing I thought was interesting was the US's steadfast refusal to don the blue beret/helmet. In fact the only long term peacekeeper/ observer mission the US has been involved with is the Sinai and the MFO wear red. Go figure eh?
