For some context, Sublime didn't blow up commercially until the release of their self-titled album (this song is on it), which came out only months after Bradley Nowell (lead singer) died of an overdose in 1996. So he never got to experience the real fruits of his labor which is truly heartbreaking. This is why there is no singing in this video and his ghost can be seen at 3:00.

So funny thing, this heina (Spanish slang for girlfriend/someone's woman, a derivative of queen) he's talking about isn't just a girl he wanted. She was a girl he HAD, but sancho (spanish slang for a guy that steals another man's woman) got to her and they had an affair. He's talking about going to find a new woman, but he wants nothing more than beat his old heina and kill her sancho. Hence the "my soul will have to wait". He's saying his soul will be going to hell, but basically he's taking them with him.

Sublime is one of those nexus bands. They stand at the nexus of punk rock and ska/reggae. When this album came out, I was in high school and I hadn't yet heard of Toots and the Maytals, Laurel Aikens, Desmond Dekker, etc., but these guys covered tunes like 54-46 (was my number), Rivers of Babylon to name a few. That introduced a lot of us to that sound. Bands like Operation Ivy, Crimpshine, and later Suicide Machines were doing a lot of ska-punk crossover. There's nothing like the gems you find on the old Trojan Records comps, especially disc to of the Rocksteady box-set, but I never would have gotten there without these guys. RIP Bradley Nowell (heroin is stupid- just don't), and it was a little sad to see Louie Dog his Dalmatian. Other great tunes by Sublime are April 26th 1992 and Smoke 2 joints.

Not many know this fun fact but Bradley Nowell singer of Sublime was one of the only Greats that died to soon in the 27/28 yr old club whom was a proven certified Genius on paper. With an IQ of 142 even by age 12 enrolled in mentally gifted minors program by his parents: not even Cobain, Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Jim Morrison, etc have that claim of proven genius on paper. If you knew how hard it is to play guitar and sing at the same time, then read his college essays, and listen to their entire band's discography, you would understand this guy was a rare genius in the music industry. He essentially died a Martyr like Bob Marley and was the biggest American band in the world to create Reggae fusion which influenced countless artists around the world. Grunge alternative rock died out, but Reggae never did.... That was pretty much souly due to Bradley Nowell. Sublime sold well over 25,000 CDs out of the trunk of their car, some say it was around 60,000 and then went on to selling over 30 Million Albums Platinum world wide when they signed to MCA records and dropped their 3rd album. Sadly, he died from a heroin over dose before the album came out and was never able to experience his mainstream success from over a decade of hard work. I'll be releasing a documentary on Sublime in late 2022.

@@arcanask Yes thank you, I am actually releasing it on youtube for Free because it's truly for the loving and loyal Sublime fans around the world. There was actually a documentary made on Sublime by a big time producer that was aired at the NYC Tribeca Film Festival back in 2018 but nobody ever picked it up on Netflix or anything and it got shelved. Needless to say, none of us Sublime fans got to see the Documentary so we are all pretty pissed off in the community. the Doc may never see the light of day which is tragic. Therefore, as a Musician/Videographer I decided what the heck, I might as well put one together myself and it could be just as good. I've always wanted to create a story on them being they are my favorite band in the world so I have commenced editing the documentary. I want to interview Sublime fans from around the world to be in the documentary and express what and why Sublime means so much to them. Sanchito is slang referring to a man engaging in an illicit affair (presumably with his girlfriend)...Heina is slang for a girlfriend (beautiful woman) so the song is about the emotional turmoil that he feels when he discovers that she is having an affair which makes him want to resort to violence. I take the lament "I don't practice Santaria I ain't got no crystal ball" is about wishing he had another way (ritualistic magic or being able to see the future, where he feels loved by another) to pacify his feelings of anger and violence...without actually doing harm to Sanchito or Heina. The next verse is about his conflict and understanding that it is not anger so much as feeling unloved...and that until he feels loved his soul will be empty. Which is also why he says they should run and hide...because he does not think he could control his anger if he sees them. In the end he explains that he he does know there is really only one way back from that place of anger, which is time and finding a new love...and all he can do is wait until then. IMO an excellent exploration of the human soul and the emotions.
