Hello, this is for anyone not understanding the pin assignment. It's not a misprint... The first number is the section. The ECU has 5 sections. Some read from right to left while others read from left to right. One only needs to look in side and you can see the numbers. So 5=section / 7=pin number. This is why you have 3 5's for a total of three pins in section 5. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you for this video. I was trying to read off the ECU data off a ME2.8 from a Crossfire, but i had the same issue as you: only one red power wire that could be connected. Spliced the orange one onto the red one, and sure enough it started working! The thing at 8:349 isn't a misprint. Its connerctor 5, pin 7 (you can see the number 5 in the back of the connector, too).

Thanks, Marco! I saved my wife's 2006 SLK350 with a cooked ECU using the KTAG and your video as a guide. I bought a used one off of eBay for about $220 and cloned it. Awesome! It was a little scary because the soldering was much more complex than for yours (multiple close pins in a dual row), but I got it done with a hot air soldering kit. It was totally scary having to do it on both the old one and the new one, but it worked! Now I need to fix the darned front SAM. :(

Very explanatory video of the process. Thanks for your efforts. In this tuning you wrote your old ecu's params to your new ecu. But what if you wanted to modify it, say remove the rev limit, where would you get those params or files?

Sorry for the late reply, but you won't be able to clear any engine error codes with this. If there are errors in the actual software of the original, they will probably be copied to the new one. In my case, the first new ECU I tried to clone was bad, the second one I bought worked fine.

You have an error at the end of the writing, i didn't understand why?it's because you select the compress file (which have the 3 files EPR/flash/MPC)? I need to do a stage1 + flexfuel E85 , so i just need to write the flash modified file. thanks for your answer.

You don't need to change any connections between reading and writing. I had an error at the end of writing because the ECU was bad.

@@bigbang6301 Yes, I believe I did test the ktag setup on the ebay ECU first to see if I could read the files before touching my original. I probably did not test the writing part with the ebay ecu files, but rather with my original files.

I only copied the original files to the ebay ECU to clone it. I had a fuel pump problem and suspected the ECU.

Thanks for sharing your technical expertise. It is good to have KTAG device rather than going to a mechanic for ECU replacement. My ECU C240 (Year 2004) got water damaged (from rain) and local mechanic charged almost 1K to put the used and programmed ECU. Besides to this Do I need to program any to my keys ?

No need to program your keys or anything. Everything on your old ECU is going to be copied to your new ECU. Of course if you can't read your old ECU, then there's going to be a problem.

@@MrMarco6900 Thanks for your response. BTW, it was a good catch, ground pin supposed be 11 not 5. I got my KTAG unit (SW 2.23 and HW 7.020) , pulled ECU from car and trying to read and backup the the data. I am getting "Communication errors with the ECU: Control all Connections; If the problem Persists, Send the LogFile to the assistance." I checked connections twice and thrice. Any ideas ?

You could try ohming out the pins on the connector to the other end and make sure you have good continuity. Might also resolder the wire to the chip, could possibly be a cold solder joint or you might have a solder bridge to one of the adjacent pins. Only other thing I could suggest is to get a used ECU and see if you can read that one. I got these ecu's pretty cheap on ebay.

@@MrMarco6900 Thanks for your quick response. I trusted DB15 connector that came with the Unit. I have continuity from DB15 pin 5 to two red (+12V) wires to other end and 11 two black (GND) wires other ends. Surprisingly, Yellow wire supposed to be soldered to pin 4 on (DB15) but it is soldered to 14 whereas blue wire is soldered to 4. I will try swapping these connections on DB 15 and try. I am trying to get used ECU from EBAY. I have to download the the existing data first in order to restore the data to other ECU.

Loved your channel! Are you in Alabama or Georgia? Also how much would your charge to program my ECU computer? For my 97 500SL 2seater! I only can turn my vehicle on! Only! When i have some to spray carburetor cleaner gas into my intake throttle body? While the i myself turn the ignition key an it manual starts up and stay runing if long as iam spraying the gas can spray in the throttle body? The ECU is not reading my old fob key ? Nor the trans ponder box is not working on the anti theft factory alarm system? Doors dont lock? Drain baterry of the car when the locks was working? Factory alarm does not work? Do you have Facebook messenger?

Michael, as far as the car only running when you spray carburetor cleaner into the intake, it sounds like your fuel pump isn't working or the fuel filter is clogged, could be a couple of different reasons, blown fuse, bad fuel pump, bad fuel pump relay... ect. I would suspect the ECU last. If you can turn the car over I would think your ECU is reading the key. As far as the other items, I really couldn't comment on those, I'm not familiar with that model.

Sorry I wouldn't know where you could get a driver for a specific model. You could possibly find another mercedes model that has the same part number for the ECU and try the driver for that model. Try deleting and reinstalling the program. Possibly try the program on a different computer.

I don't think you can use the Kess V2 with this car. The Kess talks to the ECU thru the ODBII port. This car doesn't have one, it has the large cannon plug connector under the hood where you connect a mercedes STAR computer in order to talk to the ECU.

When you save the old ECU info in to your laptop and then write or paste it in to the new ECU dose it work perfectly? If yes then why changing the old 1? Is it the data well be re restored or what? I hope my question is not to complicated.

The software is good in the old one but not the hardware. Swapping the ECU changes the hardware but you need the old software to make it work.

the problem with the old ECU is a bad output to control the fuel pump relay coil. It could be many things causing that... including water damage, heat, a fried MCU mos-fet, bad solder, bad buffer transistor or fuse link... Somehow the way many people have that same problem points to a design weakness. 👍

I was using Windows XP. I had to power the unit and plug it into the USB port on the computer to make the program work.

This is a great video, thanks for sharing. By the way, how do you open an ECU? They appear to be sealed up with glue or caulk. I tried to open my W164 ECU, and it was as tight as a clam.

😂he couldn't fix his own ECU and got a solution elsewhere, clone Ktags are notorious of not working correctly or doing any jobs other than being bricks as your bricked ECU. What he hasn't shown you in this video is actually the truth.

Watch the video again. It's very simple, the first ebay ECU was bad, the second was good. If I had a virginized ECU I wouldn't need the ktag programmer, I could just use the STAR computer to replace the original. That's the whole point of this video, to clone a used ECU so you don't have to spend a bunch on a NEW ECU.
