Good to hear all the feedback about the durability of the Winn grips. I will for sure be testing that out this summer.
@thecringegolfer3 жыл бұрын
I change mine ever 5 to 6 months, so I don't notice it as much. The dri-tac, those gray ones with the purple and coral color butt end, last longer than the wraps. I have the copper wraps on some irons and they start kind of separating where the bottom of your hand pad goes.
@sentripetal3 жыл бұрын
@@thecringegolfer My one critique of Winn grips is that they wear more quickly than other grips. I love the feel, but you lose that tackiness within a week or two of playing them. After a month or 2, I leave a thumb wear mark on driver pretty consistently. I've been using those grips for a while. I'm curious if the wrap versions are more durable.
@thecringegolfer3 жыл бұрын
@@sentripetal I have not had that much problem with the Winn DriTac Wrap, the dark gray ones like Matt had, but I don't know if they are more durable or not. But the copper colored wrap ones I have, do show some wear in similar places you were talking about and on the area close to the butt of the grip. I have not noticed any loss of feel myself. In fact my Winn Excel grips I have on another set are just as soft as the day I put them on, but some are cracking but have been on the clubs longer than a year. I have not run into the same wear that people are talking about and I play almost every day. I also regrip my own clubs and have even taken off and reused them after trying some jumbo max grips. Anyway! I like them and will probably keep them on my clubs. I have tried golf pride, tacki-mac OS (which are really good for the price and last a while) and the lamkin grips. Golf pride are ok but the bottom of the lamkin grips that goes to the head of the club start splitting after going in and out of the bag so many times.

I pick them based to longevity and feel. Minus the driver and 3 wood i put the new decade multi compound label down. I dont mind replacing my driver and 15* fairway when they wear out. I use the tackier wrap versions for them. The bag I have is also the ogio silencer so that probably plays a part in the wear.

I played Winn grips about a decade ago and loved them until I had to play in the rain. What was super tacky in the dry ended up being super slick when wet. They were impossible to play and I ended up withdrawing from the tournament. I'm sure they've improved over the years, but that experience really turned me off. I'd like to know how you'd rate all of the grips when wet.

Winn grips are soft like a sponge. When they get wet it takes for ever for that sponge to dry. Iomic grips are the best. Lowest torque for less twist on off center hits. Be sure to not get knockoffs as they are cheaper but you get what you pay for.

Nice review. Was never a fan of Winn, until I decided to buy a dri tac wrap for my driver last minute, couple days before a tournament. Loved the dri tac wrap so much after that day I went and bought more for my woods and hybrids and switched all my irons over to their “alignment” version and have been playing them ever since without considering any other brand. That was about 8 years ago. My new fitted set I got a couple months ago now has all Winn grips. They feel great without a glove and feel like they just absolutely stick to a glove even if they get a little wet in a rainy day. Best on the market in my opinion as well

@@raybaker8653 so far they are very durable, 5 months in and are still like new, still tacky so less grip pressure neeeded, i used 2 or 3 xs a week. I have 10 spare grips for when i regrip them in future because they are honestly best grip I've used. Simple design, no BS, just a normal grip thats tacky in all weather with decent feedback on shots

Two things I’d like to see: 1) your review of JumboMax grips (used by Bryson de Chambeau), and 2) your very first golf vlog video. I’ve been watching you since the backyard net and chickens, but I know I didn’t see the first one you ever posted. I think many would enjoy it! Keep up the excellent work!

I’ve been using the Winn Dritac wrap grip for years. I don’t like to wear a glove, so these are perfect for me. Like another viewer stated, they do wear fast.

I just regripped my driver to a dritac a large part due to this video, had the CP2 on it previously but something just felt off. I love the tackiness of the dritac especially given my wet hands

What grip do you recommend for seniors that have some arthritis in their fingers?? Thank you!

I really enjoyed this vid! No one ANYWEAR EVER has addressed grips and differences. Weekend warrior joes like me have no clue on grips and no one at golf stores seems to know either. Guessing, unlike you, they never bothered to try. I actually think we are just skimming the surface on this issue. I would luv to see where you do a vid AFTER trying 5-6 from each of the major makers(Winn, Lamkin, Super stroke, Golf Pride etc.). Because realistically, there are about 30-40 options(6 per manu) so a drill down even deeper would be awesome. In my case, I bought brand new TM Sim Max 7 wood last summer and it had a special order grip on it. Lamkin Crossline 360. Not Crossline. Crossline 360. It is incredible and I've gone to out of my way to get it on my driver now as well. Pure luck that I ever even got to try. I bought a Cobra T-rail pitch wedge it came with REL(I think it's Lamkin) midsize. I luv it!!! I don't think Golf Gal even carries it but it's awesome!! Finally, about 8 yrs ago like you I decided to try some new grips. I bought Winn Dri-tech (u rated #5 out of 13)and I play them still on irons. I agreed with what you said. Combo of tacky /comfortable, and good control.

I always tell people who getting ready to regrip their clubs to just do 1 first and try it. Find the the one you like before spending for the whole set. Otherwise you might be disappointed.

Exactly what I did. Based on my hand size they say I should be using Midsize or Oversize. I did the 6 iron in Matt's second favorite, the less taper DriTac in Oversize, the 8 iron in the same exact grip but LT Midsize, and the 7 iron in the Jumbomax XL. I don't hate the Jumbo/Midsize, but I think the Oversize is the best fit for me.

Lamkin crossline 360 in gray. With the hosel sleeve adjustments in woods, it doesn't matter how you align them. I also really like the Lamkin sonar hybrid if you wear a glove. A bit more firm and textured in glove hand, soft and grippy in bare lower hand.

Only thing about Winn grips is they don’t last as long in the Florida heat and humidity. Thanks Matt!
@sentripetal3 жыл бұрын
it's the same out here in Cali. I wouldn't say it's an environmental issue. I just think the polymer they're using on the grips give superior feel but are easier to erode with use. There's a reason those damn nylon stock grips you get on irons are there. They feel like sandpaper, but they'll last a long time for that average golfer that's not worried about feel.

I used to play the Winn Dri-Tacs and they really are fantastic grips. They wear out so quickly though! Once they start to break down they turn into some of the slickest weird zero control grips I've played. First 6 months to a year and woah, amazing touch and feel.

This is true, but you can pull the grips when they’ve worn out, twist them to align with a fresh traction, and regrip them. Works great for me! 👍
@tedzink45743 жыл бұрын
Right? I had wear spots after 1 round and twice at the range. Never again. My Golf Pride tour wraps have 100's of range and rounds on them and are still ok.

@@joshuahanson8543 True but most people want more play from their grips. Not everyone wants to have to twist grips after every round.
@joshuahanson85433 жыл бұрын
I get that, I’m not exactly taking a stance for a “winning debate”, just voicing an option. Also I get a solid half a season at least until there’s serious wear personally, and I still play them through the whole year before twisting up. That’s over 100 rounds, every club, driver through wedge.
