My favorite Mass Hysteria was the Loudon Possessions. A nun was so repressed in her desires that she began to have erotic fantasies about a well-known priest. Her fantasies caused her to act possessed and many other nuns started acting the same way. The nuns claimed that the priest had bewitched them and he was later burned at the stake. There was a film about it called "The Devils".
