Oh this isn’t the mainstream rap glamorizing the life to a degree. He’s telling you about the real animals among us, the worst of the worst with no empathy or regard for human life. And they’re built different in their brutality. Unfortunately these types are a product of their environment. That’s why I’ll never get the hype of the drill scene, it’s literally dudes growing up in the life who rap about actual murders in the whole gang war. I mean King Von for instance was practically a serial killer, and managed to become a star rapping about it. He said he turned into a demon after two of his close friends were killed at 12 or 13 and decided then to start putting in work. Shame to bc he had a lot of talent on the mic in term of voice, flow, overall presence.

The song is a true song but Immortal Technique wasn't actually there, it was a story told by his cellmate. Immortal said that the people who were involved started dying and the main guy family all died bc they couldn't allow the sin to continue in the family, the whole neighbourhood was onto this too, they started by killing his son and draggin the guy out to his sons funeral and then killing him with his family.

Interesting element of the song I didn't see anybody else say: from a story perspective, it's entirely possible that Billy Jacobs never went though an initiation. As a snitch, the idea that he ever had a chance making it as anything but a street thug is pretty laughable given what gang is represented. He was likely plied with drugs and alcohol before the act so he wouldn't realize it was his mom, also why the song specifically states that "they" wrapped the shirt around her head to begin the assault. And why he goes first, and it helps explain why they point out that you have to look someone in the eyes before you kill them earlier, then give him a gun after the act. I think it adds to the song, because the idea of this happening on accident is somewhat unrealistic, but the idea that forgiveness doesn't exist in gang culture and what you do follows you forever is actually pretty accurate. And the song isn't necessarily about Billy, but the corruption that Billy suffered and the harrowing depths it led him and the narrator to, and the idea that the narrator is a street rapper in the underground scene slinging cds to get the word out before his time comes is really powerful, given how IT was trying to sell the record at shows without a distribution network.

Ms Realistic, you asked what song was used as the backing track, that would be one of, if not the most known jewelery box music box songs ever created, called Love Story, a score originally written for the 1970 movie of the same name, the original lyrics were not accepted from the original writing by the movie house that were pairing the song to the movie, and after the song writer blew up when the original lyrics were rejected, he went home cooled down for a bit then while taxing his brain on what to rewrite the lyriics to, looked over at his wife and asked Where do I begin, which in the end became the songs first line. Where do I begin To tell the story of how great a love can be, The sweet love story that is older than the sea, The simple truth about the love she brings to me, Where do I start.... Several artists have since recorded versions of the song from Engelbert Humperdinl to Barbara Streisand and others known for their big boxiffice names, and known to the industry to make top songs just by their names being the featured artist to sing a given song,, but even though this track was connected to a bpx office hit movie, and held for 3 or 4 months in billboards top 100, itnever topped any of the charts, only making it up to #2 in the easy listening category, and topped out at 13th in the top 100 with its first original release, and fell shorter with each new name tasked with recording later covers of the song. Odds are the music you relate the tune to though, are the wind up music boxes that were and still are placed in jewelry boxes, and cabinets distrubuted around the world, all playing this memorable tune. Hope this helps in your curiousity on where you have heard the backing track, it title, and origin. Peace .

@MrsRealistic I knew the song through my Mom liking it. Then my Dad being the resourceful guy who could find things that were unique at the time found the jewelry box and bought it for her just soon after the song and movie released. This was no ballerina box my little sister had one of those this was a large double door with drawers mirrored backplane with a chain wheel with hooks to rotate in the center , and was huge for a jewelry cabinet a large locking multi drawer jewelry cabinet that would accommodate all yhe jewelry a normal person would afford I. A lifetime, overkill for moms jewelry and other keepsakes ,and mementos she accumulated over the years that Dad bought for her. the thing took up about 1/3 of the 6 ft dresser top it lived on. Thanks for firing up some almost forgotten nearly lost to time memories. Later.

@@WeChallenge Those are lovely memories! I never had a ballerina one either, but my friends did. My Step dad actually bought me one when I was 6 as a "wedding gift" before he married my mum. I still have it to this day. It's a lovely real wood, carved along the edges, with a padded tapestry center. When you open it, it has a velvet interior and mirror on the underside of the lid, a tray for rings on the top and underneath are the little compartments for odds and ends. Even tho they divorced when I was 13, I still treasure it dearly. God bless.

The reason a lot of rappers rap about violence and drugs is the same reason country artists sing about beer, trucks, and broken hearts. Its what they know(the exception being the rappers that fake the image for profit because they know they can) you cant really blame the rapper for making their art because they cant control who listens to their music its still boils down to parents needing to be more aware of what their kids listen to and who their influences are
@MrsRealistic Жыл бұрын
That's a great point! And it comes down to how they are parented in general. If they're brought up with no positive roll models they'll look elsewhere.
@DrZuum Жыл бұрын
You're totally ignoring the offers the artists get. The bigger the company, the greater the reward and then the greater they'll have to compromise. Many artists that seem to have hoodlum beginnings have Ivy League credentials. If you look at the Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, 50 cent, Eminem history w/ a fine tooth comb, (Sean Combs also) then you will be surprised at the reality compared to what they say to ID, Vice, Face, or any other cultural rag. Its all out there. Rappers usually know what's culturally going on but its not all they know AFTER they sign. Record labels demand crazy things. Its been going on since The Crossroads.
@lilxgraveyardxshawty420 Жыл бұрын
@@DrZuum I'm not talking about rappers like them though the rappers that are big out now are the nba youngboy and chief Keef, and kay flock types and I specifically said the artists lying are the exception, a lot of these rappers do get big rapping about what they know or making song specifically just to piss off rivals or diss dead people but once they get successful they're essentially forced to keep making songs on the bs because its what people want and expect out of them or it's what the label wants so they get stuck in this loop of making songs about shit they may no longer do while influencing kids with no good role models but its not exactly their fault, like I said the only kids going out and doin bullshit because of the music they listen to are the kids with no people to look up to or to help them realize how dumb that is. You can say that the rappers could just say no and make music with different subject matter but they're more than likely afraid of going broke again especially since a lot of rappers sign shitty deals and end up getting fucked over once the hype dies down

The mythology that has sprung around at every turn of Tech actually being involved in this story, and the story being directly referential to a single cime, is really just. Depressingly distracting from the point. The point is that across the stratum of literal and metaphor, the content of this song *is* occuring, every day, across swathes of populations so vast that it can't actually register, and most people generalize into a vague possibility that could happen anywhere, rather than a literal constant. But that's, also hard to really separate from Tech's demonstrated willingness to risk a general audiance reaction for the experience this kind of song gives a critical listener- and without fail, it really is in a league of its own in that way.
@MrsRealistic11 ай бұрын
I couldn't agree more! It brings awareness to the realities faced by so many. I've had so many different comments about how/where/why/if he was involved. With all due respect, I'm going to have to disagree with you on the nature of what constitutes a Victimless Crime. Drug usage is most certainly a Victimless Crime. Do I personally agree with people using Heroin, Cocaine, and any other hardcore drug? Absolutely not. However, I do recognize people's right to partake in such activities, even though they're destructive to their own bodies. This leads me to the question; how can someone be a victim of their own poor choices? I have a food addiction, but I certainly don't blame McDonald's, Burger King, or any other unhealthy fast food restaurant I've eaten at for my food addiction, and we certainly don't have laws against any fast food restaurants serving their unhealthy food, for good reason of course. It was my choice to eat unhealthy, so I have to bear the consequences of such actions. What about liver disease and death "caused by" Alcohol? Why don't we limit Alcohol consumption and arrest the people selling such poison? Speaking of Alcohol Prohibition, America actually tried doing that in the 1930's, but it was an abysmal failure, as Alcohol consumption actually rose in America. Not only that, the government was deliberately poisoning the Alcohol to deter people from consuming it, which brings up a good argument on why we shouldn't constantly rely on the government to solve all of our problems, because more often than not, they tend to make matters worse. Cato(dot)org has more information on 1930's Alcohol Prohibition: Just go to Google and type in, "Cato Alcohol Prohibition was a failure". Unless the dealer physically forces a particular drug down someone's throat or tells the would-be drug user that the drug they're consuming is harmless, when in fact, it was not harmless, then drug use is most certainly a Victimless Crime. On the topic of Big Pharma and prescription drug use, I actually think there's way more of an argument for doctors handing out medication that has been approved by Big Pharma being complicit in creating victims, via uninformed consent of the would-be user of such medication, rather than hardcore street drugs. A lot of prescription medications and vaccines that are given or handed out by doctors have such adverse affects, it makes people wonder why those doctors aren't telling the patient ALL of the side effects of such medication and vaccines, and not just the few they choose to cherry pick, which ultimately creates uninformed consent of the patient. If all of the side effects were listed by the doctor, and the patient still decided they wanted a particular medication, then I could understand, but unfortunately, that's not happening.
@MrsRealistic Жыл бұрын
I 100% agree with you about big pharma, vaccines and meds. I don't trust most doctors and my children have never even had an antibiotic. There is also a whole different aspect of the illegal drug trade tho... drug cartels, murders etc. The actual drug usage, you're right, it's totally a person's choice. And yes, I do know about prohibition. My point was that the fallout from all of it creates victims that might get caught in the "crossfire"... no pun intended. We see this is the gang culture especially. Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate your take on it! 😊👍
@shaunrocks20 Жыл бұрын
@@MrsRealistic I appreciate your take on this as well, as we can both gain some insight to such an important issue facing America today. However, with that said, I will also say that the fallout from Alcohol Prohibition, such as the rise of Organized Crime, was actually due to prohibition itself, thus I'm of the opinion that if all drugs were decriminalized, and we had more of an of approach of actually getting the users of hardcore drugs clean, rather than locking them up, we would see an exponential decrease in drug usage, rather than what we're seeing now, which is an increase, thus proving the War on Drugs is going the same way that Alcohol Prohibition went. We can even see the evidence of this theory just by looking at how Portugal took on this issue, which was a decriminalization of all drugs, and in place of criminalization, they're geared more toward an approach of getting hardcore drug users help. Just my two cents.
@MrsRealistic Жыл бұрын
@@shaunrocks20 You make a very good point. I think that there are benefits to making them legal, but yes, we would have to have some way of then getting the addicts clean. What we're seeing now in big cities especially, like LA, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and even my home city of Vancouver in Canada, with the zombies on the street, making it totally impossible to even walk the streets, is the tragedy of hard core drug use. What do we really do? Let those people just kill themselves and start over once they're all dead? I wish I had the answers. If they're illegal, people will still find a way to use... and someone will be able to supply it, if it's legal, then they use openly and freely anywhere, any time. I have no problem with people smoking weed, as it's a pretty benign drug and the majority of people who smoke just like to relax, play video games and eat lol! That was me back when I was about 17 when I smoked it anyway. 😆 But if the elite, big pharma and the drug cartels can make money as they do now, sadly, I doubt anything will change. It's like trying to get rid of the crooked health insurance companies that make getting coverage for the average working family pretty much impossible. They make billions every year, and yet millions of Americans will never be able to afford coverage (my family included).
@kyiaao11 ай бұрын
I don't think you understand drug addiction. Comparing it to fast food isn't a good comparison in my opinion. They are two completely different things. Drug dealers don't have to force drugs down someone's throat, once that user is addicted, that's all the drug dealer needs. This is why you hear stories of laced weed or vape pins, they are laced so that the person using it, gets addicted and continues to buy from the dealer. I know there's the argument, well they made that choice, it's their fault. Yes, it is their fault, but what people don't understand is even though that person wants to stop using drugs, they can't because of how heavily addicted they are to them. That's when they become a victim, overdose just solidifies that
@shaunrocks2011 ай бұрын
@@kyiaao "Comparing it to fast food isn't a good comparison in my opinion. They are two completely different things" Different as in one being for sustenance and the other for hallucinogenic or euphoric effects and added potency, but that's it. Oxford dictionary defines a drug as the following: 'Drug (noun) a medicine or other substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body' Food absolutely fits that category, especially seeing all the chemicals they're putting in food nowadays. Sure, food and street drugs are different on the surface, but when you look at the effects they both have, not only on the body, but also the brain, they're identical. "Drug dealers don't have to force drugs down someone's throat, once that user is addicted, that's all the drug dealer needs" That same argument can also be used for fast food and the corporations that serve them as well. "This is why you hear stories of laced weed or vape pins, they are laced so that the person using it, gets addicted and continues to buy from the dealer" "That's when they become a victim, overdose just solidifies that" Doing something to somebody which they did not consent to does create a victim, I agree with that. However, that's not what I was originally talking about. I'm specifically talking about somebody consenting to putting something in their own body without being forced or manipulated. Consensual drug usage is a Victimless Crime, unless someone spikes that persons drug, and at that point, the crime is now on the person who spiked that person's drug, but should not be on the person who wants to take that drug, but now has to be locked up with actual violent offenders. Not only that, but anything can be misused. Person A can responsibly drink alcohol and be completely fine, whereas Person B can get drunk on alcohol, beat his wife and kids, and maybe even run down some people in his/her car, yet alcohol is still legal. We don't apply that same logic to drugs for some reason though.

How is this song about the evils of capitalism? He's talking about doing anything it takes to get into the drug lord's world and basically following orders (raping and killing) in order to fit in and save face for snitching before. This is what he said in an interview about the song. "With "Dance with the Devil" it was a true story that I made myself more of a part of when I wrote the song, it became an urban legend and what's sick is that people thought it was about rape and it was really about how we are killing ourselves and destroying the most valuable resource that the Latino/Black community has, our women." I've done 3 of his songs by the way.

Frédéric Chopin once said, "Good musical composition, which must incorporate an iron-clad melodic structure, with a decipherable, coherent lyrical structure, will always contribute in a positive manner to society and the world of music as a whole. It increases musical appreciation and knowledge... and influences society in a beneficial way. To the contrary, unfortunately, there also exist many forms of literal noise that are absorbed into the minds of the musically stunted and socially retarded and categorized as music, when in fact, it is nothing more than the din that results from the absence of the aforementioned melodic structure and enjoyable, decipherable lyrical content. Each generation is exposed to music that either makes them more astute, more intelligent and more perceptive in all things, or they gravitate towards the idiocy and imbicility of the lesser of the two musical offerings." TRANSLATION: Rap and Hip Hop are melodically dead. 'Beats' are not melodic when utilized in a start-to-finish song, over and over and over again, without the benefit of a break down, a chord change or a verse. Boom, boom, boom, boom for 4 minutes, if considered 'music' by some individuals, are the very "musically stunted and socially retarded" listeners that Chopin mentioned. When repetition is utilized as a form of musical production, the offering becomes even more idiotc and imbecilic than if it had a great melody. The lyrical content MAY be relevant in 'songs' like this, but consider it a statement set to the same tempo, the same structure and the same 'beat' as thousands of other Rap or Hip Hop offerings. It's a shame. These guys might have more of an impact on society if they actually took the time to learn how to play instruments, practice until they master them, reform the group, rehearse until they achieve stage-worth status, and THEN go out and make a global impact with MUSIC that reaches across many genres. Not hatin', just sayin'. But then again, what do I know. I'm just a working musician in Las Vegas.

You make very good points. I think this song would be even better if accompanied with music and melody from a band. I saw this as more of a story than actual "music". Thanks for your comment! God bless 🙏
