But mimicing Reeves is quite enough if a better alternative isn't found. Cavill's Superman comes off as arrogant, slumsy, and reckless, even if the actor himself seems like a nice guy. Routh has the charm, the classical elegance, and the messianic purity of Reeves's Superman, even if he was just trained to mimic it. Honestly the Routh route would be far better than the horseshit that BvS & Justice League showed us. If hollywood can't find a new classical gentleman with muscles, Routh is perfectly fine. I like the texture, materials, and the color of the Routh suite, and the better logo, but it should lose the underwear, the excessive use of the logos, and gain a tiny bit of microdetail ideas from the Cavill suit. I haven't seen any Arrowverse 2019/2020 season episodes yet, but the quasi Kingdom Come Superman still looks better than Man of Steel. That makes two Routh Superman variants be better than a Cavill one thanks to DCEU overall production design incompetence.
@TheDawnofVanlife5 жыл бұрын
@@rudolphantler6309 I concur. But I think the failure of Man of Steel is less Cavil and more bad writing and bad direction. They wanted to do a Superman movie in the mood of a Batman movie. And there's a reason people who love Superman love him over Batman and people who love Batman love him over Superman. Humans are different and instead of embracing the differences of the two types of fans, it tried to capture the audience of Dark Knight with "Man of Steel" instead of just making a good Superman movie.

I still like this movie. It's Superman with no need for dark edges which was becoming all the rage at the time. The airplane sequence is great, his flight with Lois does all the nostalgia you can handle and they have good chemistry. And the Superman/Lex confrontation on the island is perfect. Superman, weakened by Kryptonite, being dragged by his face by Luthor's henchmen, and he's screaming "I'M STILL SUPERMAN! I'M STILL SUPERMAN!" It's good stuff. I think the plot with the child, and with Richard being a decent guy and not the usual "why is she with this creep?!" guy was an odd choice that needed a sequel to suss out, and I think that hurt this as it ended up needing to stand alone without anything to follow it. Compared to Man of Steel (high bar being set here), it was a loving, faithful adaptation and it wasn't 2 hours of Supes leveling Metropolis without a care in the world and then turning into a murderer before the credits rolled. I'd say in hindsight (with the DCEU), the film ends up looking better, not worse. Problematic, needing some tightening of pace, but a good flick.

In man of steel superman actually has an arc, instead of stalking lois for half the movie. Stop sprouting nonsense

i think pacing was one of the problems. . almost every scene seemed padded with exception of the plane sequence.

I grew up watching this and as a 7 year old was very confused as to what Superman was returning from. I loved it and watched it several times. Too bad it's not a masterpiece.

Part of the reason I love "Man of Steel" so much is because "Superman Returns," which was the direct predecessor, time-wise, to "Man of Steel," lowered my expectations of ever seeing a great Superman flick ever again in my life, to such a depressing degree, that when I walked in to see a different Superman origin story, in 2012, I fully expected that I was wasting my money. Instead, I loved it! And I feel I have to thank Brandon Routh, and "Superman Returns," for lowering my expectations enough that I was able to actually enjoy "Man of Steel" as a far superior version of the Superman I was force-fed as a child growing up in the 80's. Not that those first two Donner Superman films were terrible. They certainly were not. But they are also, inextricably, stuck in their time. They are so terribly dated that it was past time we got a more "modern" Superman. Now we have that. For all the crap thrown at DCEU nowadays, we at least got a better Superman. And I can't wait until the inevitable next Superman film finally comes out! Because it will. And Superman, for as strong as he is, always brings the strongest villains to the table. And that's what the DCEU really needs. The BEST evil, for the best good to battle against.

Brandon Routh is still my favorite Superman. I thought that movie was a really great blend of the charismatic with the burdened Superman, and it doesn’t have a hideous plot.

This movie would have been better if the villain had been Corn of Coblin.

Hunter Becknell I wished we would’ve gotten Brainiac, as I always wanted to see him on the big screen. We’re still waiting :( because this film didn’t do well enough for a sequel.

If they were considering Metallo for the sequel, surely it would be Corn of Corben?

True I always did hate the fact that he didn't have anyone to get into a physical fight with One of the main reasons why I like Man of Steel better His fights with the Kryptonians in that movie were pretty rad

Loved Superman Returns....AND Man of Steel. (But what makes ‘Returns’ awesome is John Williams themes, that music is like the “Bond” theme and should always be used for Superman,that is the element ‘Man of Steel’ lacks)

I don't agree. That would only work with a cheesy 80s cornball tone. I think what Hans Zimmer came up with is far superior

@@jimd385 Very true. While I think John Williams score for Superman is great, I just find it to be more of a heroic theme whereas Hans Zimmer's theme is truly inspiring.

There’s one comic above all others you guys should talk about. I’m of course talking about the 90s classic Superman/Wonder Woman: Whom Gods Destroy. It features Super Centaur Man and Wonder Nazi. It’s just in a league of its own.

The Brandon Routh Superman in Crisis on Infinite Earths also DIRECTLY mentions Jason, his son from this movie, heavily implying that he is definitely the same version that we see in "Superman Returns".

If the crystals work as Lex claims, shouldn't the ones that Kitty dumps out at the end create an even bigger land mass than the one Superman just threw into space? Did nobody think of these things?
