Batman Forever - Caravan of Garbage

Tim Burtons Batman Returns ended up being not the creative direction (box office return) that Warner Brothers wanted. So in response to that we got a pretty significant tone shift for the next entry, Batman Forever directed by Joel Schumacher and now starring Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne. And it worked! Financially. Remember before the internet, you would just hear things on the schoolyard and unquestioningly believe them? My best friend Jeffrey Van Deusen told me in 1993 that the bad guys in the next Batman movie would be Two-Face and the Riddler and then I moved away and never saw him again but BOOM two years later he turned out to be right and I've never forgotten it. Something I think a lot of people overlook about Frank Gorshin's take on the Riddler is that he didn't always play it with that manic energy, dialed up to 11 all the time like people think. He actually plays it fairly subdued for the most part, and then the hammy giddiness usually only comes out when he's excited. It's almost like the Riddler is trying to keep a straight face to hide his insanity, but he can't help but let it slip out sometimes.
