OUTSTANDING!!! OMG this was what I needed to hear today! Scarlet Citadel needs to be cut into sections and used as 1-2 session events with each "boss" having a section. Yeah, the first three levels make sense, the forth isn't so cool (faction politics among the mad), I did use the underground water feature - that was cool! And yeah, I had to bring down the intensity as well. I have not done the other levels and I'm glad I haven't. Lastly - the MAPS and OVERLAYS are awesome!

Always good to get honest reviews on modules like this. And I always enjoy modules that pose a serious challenge. And I have no issue with players being punished for making a stupid decision.

I also have run this lol. I ended up doing the ruins, level 1, and level 2 pretty faithful to the book. But then I saw how much content was left and moved into the faction portion and the final boss. We had a blast ! But I am glad I did the finale my own way! I always say to use these kind of books for inspiration and then do your own thing. NPC alignments are a good example. I had Komrad be the helpful mentor type instead of someone taking advantage of the players by scamming them! They ended up taking down the “evil” mayor (who I had working with the Greusome) and Komrad became the new mayor after they cleared the Citadel. Epic! Also loved the maps that came with it. We had one character not make it but it was during a boss fight. The players made Ron a memorial and statue in the town square.

Sounds like a great way to do it! To quote Wolfgang Baur - Kobold Press CEO, "Strip it for parts and make it your own!"

@@awaytoanywhere699 I didn’t know that quote, thank you. My players also found out Cargoth-ze (level 2 boss) was actually being brain washed (and is a good guy). So they ended up on a side quest and used his time traveling machine to obtain some magical gems they needed to power up their cyborg NPC. lol. Good times

Thanks for the video. I did run that book at the beginning of my campaign. And yes there was character deaths. And yes I still had to tone down the book to avoid multiple TPKs. I agree with you 100% that there needs to be danger and risk. But at the same time the amount of danger that book holds made it exhausting for the players at the table. I found that they couldn't wait to get done with it so I ended it a little early by giving them a way out. The number one goal for me as a DM is that all players are having a good time. I found that the players were too stressed out having session after session being so deadly. After they escaped I noticed that the campaign became more enjoyable for them. I must also note they were not heavily experienced players. With only a year or so of playing D&D under their belt. So maybe this book is meant for a more experienced group.

My players are having a blast in this dungeon, they can always go back but they never want to. As a matter of fact, they are now looking for three new party members in Redtower, so they can go back and finish the job.

07:47 I'd be interested in learning more about how you've adapted the Scarlet Citadel and its denizens to the Cypher System. Have you already done a video on that?

Thanks for the video! How are you enjoying the Scarlett Citadel overall? I didn’t pick that one up, as Mike Shea (Sly Flourish) gave it a very harsh review.

I have tons of videos on it and even a review type video. I LOVE it! It has its flaws like any book or adventure, I leave out some insta-kill stuff. The story, theme and vibe of the dungeon is very well done and it's built as a living and breathing world.

@@MrTarrasque, thanks, I will check out your other videos! I already bought Empire of Ghouls, so I am happy to grab another Midgard adventure.
