Firstly your videos are NEVER boring! Thank you for the stroll along The Strand, lots of new projects going on. Probably not possible, but it would be nice if more trees could be planted, or some sort of greenery to break up all the views of the big buildings. Also would be good to soak up all those fumes. Thanks again.

The Magic Kiosk was in St Anne's Square (24 minutes into this great video - thank you Steve,as always) on the corner where Tower Road goes up over the inner part of Tigne Point, and then down to Sliema Strand. It was a great little place to have a coffee, snack, Kinie or beer,watching the ferries come and go. There was an anglers' supplies and hardware shop on the church side. And most of the front you show here was taken up by small independent shops and a few bars, and even still a few of the old villas with their little front gardens. I mean 40 to 30 years ago. Time passes.

Malta has changed so much since i was stationed there in 1975 to 1978 and i married a maltese woman and each time we go out it changes and not for the good. There was a model shop in Sliema which sold all kinds of models but i cannot rememeber where it was and as for paceville i had many a great night out there in the English speaking bars and i got my Suzuki duty free bike from Antonio Bosio Street.

HI STEVE I WATCHED YOUR WALK FROM GZIRA TO SLIEMA,PLACES I HAVE VISITED OFTEN,BUT WOW HOW IT HAS CHANGED AND EVEN MORE I CAN SEE BY YOUR VIDEO. GZIRA IS THE PLACE WE USED TO COME TO ON A SUNDAY EVENING NEAR MANUAL ISLAND AND BUY SOME CHEESE CAKES FROM MAXIMS NEAR BY.AND AS FOR TONY'S BAR USED TO HAVE A HAM ROLL AND GLASS OF TEA BEFORE GOING BACK TO TIGNE BKS WHERE I WAS STATIONED WITH THE ROYAL ARTILLERY IN 1957.YOUR WELSHMAN IN MALTA.

Hi John. You reminded me of my beloved Dad - Gnr. Jim Abela - Royal Malta Artillery. He served from mid 30s to mid 60s.. I'm sure, that apart from a few short foreign postings, he was @ Forts Campbell, St Angelo & St Elmo . Mostly, I remember those SUPERB Xmas parties the Artillery used to throw & the awsome Xmas presents we used to get at the end 🤶 😲. Those were the days! Cheers mate 👍 🇲🇹 ♥ 🇪🇺 ™

Lovely little meander around Silema with you Steve. It’s crazy how much places change in such a short time. That Mrs building has shot up. The Indonesian guy who stopped to say hello was nice and cheery 😁 There is a lovely little tea room you walked past near to McDonald’s called Carolina’s. They sell delicious cakes! 🍰

We used to do that walk a couple of times each holiday but on the other side of the road. There used to be a few stand alone snack bars which served nice food and cheap drinks but I looks like they're all gone now. We've never stayed in Sliema because we like the North, particularly Qawra/Bugibba but I might stay around Sliema next time so we can explore the South more.
@dr.strangelove77393 жыл бұрын
Wow!, I commented to early! There is the good old Black Gold! The reason they named it the "Black Gold" is because they wanted to attract all of the oilfield workers flush with cash when they were coming and going to work in Libya. They all had to transit through Malta during the Libyan sanctions, and they all hung out at this bar. Three generations of my family have bellied up to that bar! Sorry to say my dad (and a few of his Scottish friends) had to replace all of the tables and chairs in that place, (more than once). But, the owners always welcomed him back. There used to be hardhat stickers on the wall from all of the oilfield workers that used to go there while they were on field break. Our sticker said "Christian International, Ltd." I wonder if it is still there. Last time I went there was around 2003.

Your videos arn not boring, now we know that the Tri Angelis were replaced by Black Gold Saloon, and the Tom Tailor Shop is replaced by Busy Bee. After the Zara Shop the road left up, 50 to 100 meters is the Restaurant of the Sliema Wanderers Football Club. Good food, affordable price and you can sit in an atrium off the road.

@andrewharding83063 жыл бұрын
Nothing like Benidorm, Sliema is just very busy and crowded, it's not tacky, cheap and Blackpooly as Benidorm is, I think maybe you're getting confused with Qawra / Buggiba which is a dump, no idea why anyone would want to go there when there are so many beautiful towns and villages in Malta with beautiful countryside views and landscapes, but I guess that's what tourists do, I know that I couldn't.
@mickeycrilly18393 жыл бұрын
@@andrewharding8306 I was referring to the look in that it’s getting that high rise look, I prefer the rest of Malta and Gozo myself paceville is the start of the young money traps and as they spend a lot more than us oldies that’s were the front is going, all load bars and cheep build high rise hotels never mind hopefully they will get a less show me the money government who will start to keep the heritage more

I see Little Tony`s Bar is still all closed up. Obviously Paul`s kids didn`t want to keep it open, but at least, for the moment, it is still there, along with a lot of happy memories for, I am sure, many ex forces people and their families.
@PaulMann86663 жыл бұрын
The Sicilian influence, with all of that island's problematic aspects, used to be something the Maltese were proud of keeping out. But then Malta joined the famously incorruptible EU and got lots of nice gambling businesses and Gentlemen's Clubs in St. Julians. EU benefits are so clear in Malta now. Progress is a marvelous thing.

Boring ?????……pure rubish. Sliema is so different compared to the Malta I know , being so modern. Listening to you talk about Sicily, I would love to see a video of you making a trip on the boat there. It could be a road/wave runner if you take your car. My Grandfather used to go there to play with his village band on the weekend.

Cause Malta needs more hotels and restaurants. Not. Sliema is a place I have walked many times. My cousin lives in the next village, Gzira. I have photos of this area, how it has changed. Being Maltese living in England, I can't say I find your videos boring. My favourite thing to do was buy a slice of Pizza from Maxims and maybe a recotta pastits. Then Walk to the Gardens at the front in Gzira sit on a bench facing Valletta and eat.
