I love your video presentations ! They are fun, interesting and informative. I have always loved tie dyes since my early days in the 80's going to dead concerts and loving life. Now, I get to relive those great memories and learn how all those tie dyes I love so much are made. Thank you. :)

Hi Mr Tie Dye, I tried my first peace sign t-shirt and it has a terrible , couldn’t tell it was supposed to be a peace sign also I hard time working with the string for some reason I can’t figure out how to tie a slipknot so I went with rubber bands. I’m a fairly big person and had to use a XL size t-shirt it’s a lot more material to work with. Do you have any suggestions on doing a bigger size shirts?
@MrTieDye2 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to hear that... there is no secret to working with larger tees, I just make the design a bit larger and try to focus just on the folding of the peace sign to start with... once that is all tied up, then I just slowly fold or scrunch the rest of the tee up and tie or band it.... the kite string does take some practice to get it down, but I used to use rubber bands for many years, so if they work better for you, then use them .... here is a bit of a video where I have an already dyed peace sign tapestry and I re fold it so you can get a better idea of how the peace sign fold comes together, so I hope this helps : Re-Folding a Dyed Peace Sign : kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWPEgJmcm6mFla8 and just in case, here is how I use Kite String and Sinew : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIOupYF4j6doh9E

What does alternating the color patterns on the both sides do exactly? Do you have to do that because of the way you did your initial half fold, with the sleeve in the sleeve?
@MrTieDye3 жыл бұрын
That is what gives the patterning for the DNA design .... if I dyed the lines the same color top and bottom, then you would have solid lines in the Oval shape ..... but the DNA pattern is more of a checker board look 😉✌🏻

thank you, I am glad to be able to help you. I recommend buying fiber reactive Procion dye ... I buy most of mine from dharma .... www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html ............................................. but i have also purchased from Custom Colours in NC and Grateful Dyes in CO ............... the main thing is the type of dyes and then buy from the closest place to save on shipping costs

Looked like an accordion fold. Why did this one come out looking like dots? I do get lost and would appreciate you mentioning where the neck, sleeve and bottom are at times. Love the end result
@MrTieDye4 жыл бұрын
That comes from the way the dye is applied.... I shift the colors one space either left of right when I dye the bottom side... in the tie-dye world this has become known as DNA .... and can be done with multiple colors as well, but when just using two colors, you get more of these dots effects ... here is a dress I did with more colors, but the same type technique for applying the colors ..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5bak5yLeaycqNk

Why is my die dull looking usually Black gold etc.? Can procien dye be Used for ice dyeing?
@MrTieDye4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure... some of the things it could be are your dyes... are you using Procion Dyes?? how strong did you mix them?? and you mixed your soda ash strong enough?? how long did you batch them for?? if the batch time is too short, or too cold, the dyes will not bond properly... I batch mine at 70F for 24-48 hours and I even add some heat ... you can send me a message here with photos if you want me to help trouble shoot what is going on .... m.me/CarlMrTieDye and yes Procion dyes can be used for ice dyeing.... I am still new to ice dyeing, but I have made some videos to show the basic process .... kzbin.info/aero/PLMEtBqB2Bzup6Xs9IdJlpnkbLFYF2zvcd
