I've tried 2 shirts in this pattern before this tutorial and wasn't happy with results. Thank you, time to try it again.

Excellent tie dye. I watched this video last week without sound (to keep from disturbing others) and I missed the part about letting it dry after folding. Colors didn't pop, lots of white...fail. What went wrong? Duh! I just rewatched this video WITH sound. Fantastic "Aha!" moment. Tomorrow will be take 2 with Radio Waves. Thank you very much for all of your tutorials. I'm getting a tad better with each shirt thanks to you. Woo Hoo!

thank you and you are welcome... I love to help other have success with this art and yes, with many layers, drying is the key ... one thing though, if the dye rolls off instead of soaks in, lightly spray the top of your tee/tap with soda ash and this will allow the dyes to soak in.... have fun and I wish you success ... and yes, with each one you do, you will get better.... this art is a lot about Practice Practice Practice .... oh and take pics so you can look back and see how far you have come 😉✌🏻

Once tied, how are you storing and drying your shirts, before dying? Great channel!
@MrTieDye3 жыл бұрын
If I want my tees to stay damp, then I have a tub with a lids that I store my tied tees in.... But, sometimes when I have many layers of fabric, like this design, then I set them near a heater vent to dry out for a couple days ... this helps with the saturation when you have many layers of fabric

Question! Why do you want it dry before you dye it? I find when its dry its a lot harder to dye because the dye just rolls off... Im in the middle of the video so you may answer this later in the video but I wanted to ask before I forgot lol!
@MrTieDye4 жыл бұрын
to take advantage of the way the dye spreads through dry fabric, it will help with the dye saturation in the middle layers... and what i do with dry fabric is spray it lightly with soda ash water to get it slightly damp and then the dye soak in rather than roll off

@Mr tie dye: What shade of orange are you using on this shirt? Also, are the dyes you are using for this design thickened? I am going to try this design next. Thanks 😊

How long in advance do you soak apparel in soap ash. In essence, can I soak shirts now and dye them a month later?
@cletusmcsquizy4 жыл бұрын
Why are you doing it dry instead of damp? I’m curious because normally damp is the preferred method. Love your videos and designs
@alan_whoneedstiedye4 жыл бұрын
When there are that many layers of fabric due to this fold pattern, it is hard to get dye penetration. The moisture can block the liquid dye from moving through the layers.
@cletusmcsquizy4 жыл бұрын
Alan S. that’s what I was thinking but wasn’t 100% sure. Thank you

I tried this and I have a huge purple fully saturated circle in the middle of the tee... the purple also overtakes most of the tee... could this be because I used too much dye? I also do not have many white areas... I like the white sections a lot... please help lol I really like this design... very uncommon
@MrTieDye3 жыл бұрын
yes it could be too much dye at one time.... I add mine and let it soak in some and then add more.... as for the white, I was actually trying to have no white in mine LOL .... but one way you can get more white it to tie it damp and then dye it damp... I let mine dry to try and get better saturation... but leaving it damp will possibly leave some white in there as well.... it does take some practice, so you may have to do it a few times to zero in on the results you want.... I would do just one at a time and see your results and then try another and so on.... sometimes it take me several try to get the design the way I want it... sorry I could not help more with this... I wish you success!!

Can you do a spiral design in the back of the shirt only? Thankyou in advance idol😍
@MrTieDye4 жыл бұрын
yes you can, but it is quite tricky to pull off .... you need to put something in between the front and the back of the tee while you are twisting it up so only the back of the tee is in the twist and leave it in there as you tie it up so when you add the dye, it does not soak through... were you leaving the front white?? I wish you success

Hey Mr Tie Dye, or anybody else out there. I’m routinely having problems with my blues setting in my tie dyes. I wash my tshirts first, soak in soda ash for 20-30 minutes, wring out, dye and let the shirt/dye chill for 24 hours in a bag. Any suggestions?
@MrTieDye2 ай бұрын
you say the blues are not setting... does this mean when you wash them out, most of the blue dye fades away and leaves light colored blues?? OR, duo you mean as you are rising/washing, there seems to be blue coming out all the time?? I know most times when I check my wash water after the first wash, the color I see is blue, they seem to take the longest to wash out so a couple things, what is the temp when you are batching?? 70F is the minimum for getting the dyes to set decently, but I like to add some heat when I batch mine, this helps the dyes set up better and may help your blues ... you may also try a longer batch time and see if that helps
@christopherebner17412 ай бұрын
@@MrTieDye one of two things has been happening either a) the blue gets really light after rinsing and first wash or b) it almost completely washes out. I have not tried using color safe bleach, which I have been reading about to "set" the colors. Still trying to figure this one out without going through more shirts. Thanks!

I am not sure I understand your question... do you mean how to tie dye a tee that has a screen print or logo already on it?? if so, then you can fold around the image and tie it off so you do not get dye on it and then fold the rest of the tee up how you like and dye it up... also, I will add some plain water to the image on the tee so it is wet, otherwise the dye will want to creep into the drier fabric

Why do my t shirts always rinse dingy/not as vibrant
@MrTieDye4 жыл бұрын
it cold be the dyes... I use Procion Dyes, I mix them strong and I let mine batch for 48 hours to give the dyes more time to bond.... and then I do a cold water rinse and then three hot washes with Synthrapol soap, this helps keep the excess dye particles suspended in the water so they do not back stain : kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmGwkKGpqbCeoK8
