My family has raised great pyrenees dogs since the day I was born. The first one we got was born the same day I was. We've been raising them for 22 years now. By far my favorite dog. We also raise sheep so they are awesome at livestock protection. And they can get pretty big too.

Thank you for this list. I am a breeder of Rottweilers and cant tell you you how how much I I hate for people to come up to me when Dakota (Who is 120lb in winter and 100 in summer...but he has a 24" neck) they say I got or knows someone that has a 200+ Rotty. I dont understand those people. My Rotty was fat because he was a a inside dog. He WAS OVERWEIGHT but he was was my buddy. He died last year of cancer of 12 years. I know that is a lot of Rotties years and I will never forget him. I have a new one now, his name is Scooby. He is just as loyal as Dokata, Judge, and Maligha was. Love your post

Tim Taylor People always exaggerate the weight. Biggest I've seen was 160, and not overweight, just huge. But that was from a breeder who sought out the biggest Rotty's he could. They can vary a lot, breed standards are for show dogs.

I have lived with newfoundlands all my life (20 years) they are huge black beasts that are so soft cuddly and EXTREMELY intelligent. They have double coats and actually have webbed feet like ducks to give them extra water propulsion. They are water rescue dogs and have saved thousands of lives, sometimes dying to save others. My first one when I was little was called boss, he sat next to me and put his paw around me to guard me, and he could peel banana's by himself, which he loved to eat, My second was called Bear, he was to cuddly and he would lay with me for hours and was so gentle that I could always shake his paws, flap his ears which he loved, and even touch his HUGE teeth, they are huge dogs but very gentle and strong.

We've had two Neapolitan Mastiffs. Our first one (Moose) was over 200 pounds and on its hind legs around 6'3. My little brother and sister (7 and 9 year-olds) would ride around on his back like a horse 😂

No, he would lay on his favor spot and watch his territory around...Stuff he can do also in your small apartment on your bed...^^ It is a misjudgment that great dogs need much space - two times daily a stroll and cavort if you both like is even enough. Greater dogs are mostly not great runners...23 hours layzy blinking in the sun and one hour per day - ARFFFARRFFF....^^

Here in Germany it is (mostly) okay for the house owners to let people hold dogs in the apartments (except maybe loud barking dogs). Sorry for teasing you a little bit - without knowing the harsh circumstances... Hopefuly you get your own garden, were you can hold your own beloved dog, if you want. I stayed with people who had a 98 kilogram Irish Wolfhound. From floor to its shoulder, it was 3 & 1/2 feet, and when it followed you into the passage, it had to reverse to get out again, because it was too large to do a u-turn. A gentle giant though. Very slobbery.
