In this video, I speak with Joseph J, someone that I met when he was just beginning to study Jehovah’s Witness publications with a friend of mine about 15 years ago. Over the years, I saw Joseph get baptized, bring his whole family into the organization, and become a ministerial servant and regular pioneer. In this interview, he explains why, as of late 2019, he is no longer one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and why he decided to speak out about the organization’s abusive policies.

Because of the propaganda from videos like the prodigal son…they seem to automatically assume you’ll be like that character in the movie and turn to drugs, heavy drinking, risky sex and smoking etc…it’s like ummm NO, you don’t need to be an active JW to use 1/2 a brain and realize that doing all that is just stupid. Everyone knows you should stay away from all that. You don’t need to be a JW to have a clean and successful life.

Thank you for making that point - who we were as a person (humble, loving, caring, etc) that brought/kept us in the org...is exactly who we ARE when we leave. And I hate how we suddenly become villianized because we are DFd, when NOTHING about us (but our beliefs) have changed!

@Duan Romine All that assumption with out any evidence. That's weakness in your own mine and doctrine to believe people can't survive or be diciplined in life with out being a JW. I follow several activists DAILY, periodically throughout the day, and Fifth ("Cliff") THIS IS IT!!! If no one else ever made another video exposing this fraud of a "religion" THIS IS THE ONE TO WATCH. From about 50 minutes in IT IS RIVETING!! It's like that portion of the BEST movie ever and then the commercial comes on and you just can't WAIT to see what happens next!!! And the young man said, "...and Jeffrey Jackson said..." BOOM, and then he quoted them LYING about Jesus being our, MY, mediator! BOOM! Man, listen, if Jdubs want to watch this and negate it it's because they DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH!!! This is stuff PRINTED IN THE STUDY EDITIONS! I was sitting in the meeting when we did this lesson and I remember thinking, "...WHAT?" But like so many other things, just dismissed it. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I remember thinking, "They're not talking about ME!" All I can say is, GET OUT OF HER YOU PEOPLE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE DESTROYED WITH HER!! QUIT TOUCHING THAT UNCLEAN THING!! I have to get back to work. I'm not going keep typing but I'm sure going to keep listening! And I ADORE the way you keep eye contact with the people with whom you speak! So many teaching points. Joseph J, I wish you and your entire family all the best that life has to offer, and I am so happy for your escape!

Thanks for sharing your story. You brought back some memories when I was going to the Kingdom Hall as a teenager. My mother was divorced (not a JW). I had moved out of my mother’s home and moved in with a JW friend. My so-called JW roommate wouldn’t pay part of his rental deposit or months of rent, and I had to move and live on my own. My father (not a JW) didn’t pay child support to help my mother, me or my siblings. My mother was in the hospital during this time and she had a lot of bills. I started working extra hours to help my mother with her bills and other expenses. Three elders came by my place asking why I wasn’t attending the meetings. I shared with them that I am helping out my mother with her expenses and working extra hours. One of the elders said, “Either your serve Jehovah and live or help your mother and die.” I said, “Thank you and have a nice day.” I shut the door behind them, and I have never been back.

Yes, the org is rotten, but those who come out are some of the most aware people equipped to use their talents of loving any race and culture of people. When you leave, YOU HAVE REAL LOVE. Better to have a positive attitude and appreciate the experience I had when I was in and use it to help others come out. Helping people is never a waste. It's silly to pity. @@Rabittibazaar All though what your saying is A truth it's still bias. The organization teaches their members to be judgemental and have a since of superiority over other groups The organization is based on lies, teaches false and half truths. While attempting to discredit other groups and belifes. While never truely addressing it's own contradiction and falicies. It's a very sheltered system of "aboundant knowledge". And much of what they teach is not originated or discovered by the organization at all. Much of their teaching comes from a spin off of knowledge through peer reviewed science, achiologist, ancient linguistics and historians.

I had committed a disfellowshipping offence and thought it best to approach the elders to help me resolve the issue, as we are encouraged to do. During the meeting with the two elders I was told this, that the body of elders are " spiritual policemen " Up until that moment my thinking was of the wondering sheep who got lost and that the shepherd had left the flock and went to great lengths to find the one who was lost and return it to the flock, I wasn't prepared for the shepherd to have a rifle in his hand. For the next nine years I was PIMO, the " spiritual policeman " was also the congregation overseer who wanted nothing to do with me after that.I finally had enough after a brother who had left the " truth " took his own life. Unknown to me and as I learned later he initially and desperately wanted help from the elders. Unfortunately the elders are not equipped or qualified to deal with severe depression and emotional trauma as a result of JW policy. Thankfully we as exJW's have channels like this and many others around the world who tell their stories and lend their support. We are not apostates. We are loving, caring and empathetic - intolerant of injustice wherever we find it. We've evolved.

It resonated with me so much about people suffering to stay within the JW society. I was raised a JW and my mother was a single mother and my brother and I were always treated as second rate citizens because there was no father in our home. My brother and I woke up from this nightmare cult in our teens and my mother was made to feel responsible for our leaving until she passed away in 2010.... We suffered financially and emotionally to the point that my brother suffers to an extent of PTSD from the bullying he went through at the hands of elder's children in the congregation. I would never, ever raise a child of mine in that cult. It's so sad that so many really great and loving people are so brainwashed that they won't listen to any thing negative said about their religion. I personally was always defiant and I would read and research the things they tried to teach me from the time I was around 9 years old and I was able to see how very false they were, but my poor mother never got out of it and lived trying to be worthy of the ideals they set for her. I applaud you and others that have become activists because you are able to speak out and perhaps help others that want to get out or stop those that are starting to study to realize just what this organization can do. Thank you.

What amazes me is how the Watchtower leadership acts so much like the ancient Samaritans: they lie about everything and have the nerve to tamper with God's written word. They lie about Russell, dates, events, expectations, policies--they even lie about Christian churches (in order to poison the well). Lying for Jehovah, left, right and center; I just don't get it! 😣😣😣😣😣

You can share what you’ve found and how you found it, but it stops and ends there. Faith/Spirituality is FAAAR from a one size fits all experience), especially with the survivors. I try to understand all sorts of people with all sorts of experiences so that I can be of the most service of them & support to them. That being said I just found out my sister-in-law is a ExJW survivor. I had no idea. And it explains SO much. I just want to hug her now.

Iam a worldly woman and am heavily critical of the organization especially as a woman why would I want to be apart of something that would treat me as inferior because of the gender i was born with and still identify as?

Amazing how fragile and susceptible the human mind is to latch onto a contrived reality that shapes your behavior and thinking. Not all, of course, is bad or damaging. But the belief that an Almighty God is backing this organization with holy spirit can be toxic. I pioneered also . How did you overcome the feeling or belief that God was backing and supporting the direction you took as well as pioneering?

The lies from jJackson under oath was the last straw for me as well! I did what you did. Rewound to make sure of what I heard... ”did I really just hear that”? And the disfellowshipping he didn’t know about. Not his department? Really? Not mine either but I knew the answer! Yes, a very big slap in the face! Hypocrisy at its finest!

..... Ps it’s hard to be kind to these guys as they’re not nice to deal with - they cause depression etc etc because of their refusal to admit the way they behave is wrong - causes individuals to be suicidal so some have to decide not to pursue or get involved - bear that in mind before asking people to accommodate jw thinking as it’s not at all healthy to get involved sometimes x

53:29 mark. And how long were you a JW before you learned Watchtower teaches Jesus is NOT your mediator? It took me 40 years before I discovered it. After that...I'm done!!!

I've seen a lot of videos about that. In my research they are right but he isn't their mediator either. I won't get into it here but it's very interesting how they change things but on this they won't budge. 🤷🏾
