I follow the OMS diet and I feel great. I dont get bloating and fatigue at all, also the main purpose of the diet is to prevent you from developing future diseases such as diabetes or heart conditions. By eating healthy you wont have high cholesterol thus your chances of getting other diseases goes down to minimum. I have also met up with a lot of people who has MS and are following the OMS diet- they are all walking and their condition is stable. Some of them are on dmts others not by their choice of course.

Hi Dr Beaber, fantastic video! It’s telling that the one thing they all have in common is no dairy. I’ve had MS since 1998 and tried to adopt the OMS diet for a couple of years. Kudos to Prof Jelinek whose research showed me just how important diet is and how much control we have. By modifying his diet, I’ve created my own Food Medicine Diet that’s easy to stick to and got me to NEDA without medication. 🎉 sincerely grateful for your open minded helpful videos. Dani

Hello Dr Baeber, I've been with you since the beginning of my MS symptoms (approximately a year ago). I'm scheduled to undergo HSCT in California. My experience getting this covered by my insurance was not as easy as it should be, but it was FAR FAR easier than what I was expecting it to be. I think it would be very beneficial for your viewers to know more about my experience. It seems to echo the experience of younger americans that are currently seeking this procedure. I believe, at least in the US, from my talks with various providers and my insurance case manager, that HSCT is starting to find its way into our healthcare system. Not sure if this would translate well into video format, but I believe awareness needs to be raised.

@@KaitAC Neurologists like to say it is a "last resort", but if you look at the studies HSCT is most effective the sooner you're able to get it. In fact, once you cross to progressive disease, which often is a function of age, HSCT becomes significantly less effective.

I am fairly skeptical of any diets claiming to "cure" or beat MS. My first relapses in the mid 90s resolved over time without any change to my lifestyle or diet. I wasn't diagnosed with MS until 2013, although there were four or five distinct episodes of new damage/relapses that were occurring that I recovered from almost completely over time. However, if I had been diagnosed, and jumped on board with one of these diets back then, I would have believed that it was that diet keeping my MS stable and symptom free for all the years I had no significant problems. I just don't think the science backs it up. I do think though that any diet that you can stick to, that avoids processed foods, excess sugar and salt etc is going to be beneficial for over health outcomes for everyone, including those with MS.

My personal experience… I had my MS diagnosis in Apr 2017.. and in the followup MRI exactly 12 months later, in Apr 2018, the radiologist reported the lesions shrunk in size … and in those 12 months I did long distance running more than 1000 km (mostly triggered by anger after the diagnosis). Today, I’m unable to run due to the disease progression. But I keep myself active with other exercises…

Thanks for sharing this info. I did a lot of reading about MS diets after my diagnosis and learned that I was mostly compliant with my current diet at the time. I’ve since gotten more strict at avoiding dairy, inflammatory oils and have added fish and flax oil supplements, along with vitamin D with K2. I also take probiotics every morning and have followed a 16-8 intermittent fasting schedule for the past 4 years. I started fasting 2 years before diagnosis and noticed I had more energy and less gut issues. I was also able to maintain the 20 pounds I lost working on my new house at the time. I don’t follow a strict diet, but I’d call mine a modified Mediterranean diet low in saturated fat, dairy, and sugar. I avoid processed foods entirely with limited exceptions based on the ingredients. There are some good snacks out there, but you have to know your ingredients. For anyone looking to eat cleaner I would recommend checking out Bobby Parrish’s channel. My wife and I have learned a lot from him.

For what it's worth, I just watched the healing progression of a gal on YT with relapsing remitting MS who used the carnivore diet to return to full function in less than a year. Her channel is Cabana Chronicles. She just posted a consolidated timeline of her journey from first symptoms, through diagnosis, wheelchair introduction and finally to today where she is symptom free eating only animal products. She mentioned having tried the OMS diet early on which is why I searched for that and found your video. I can't say for sure if she consumes any dairy, I sort of suspect not. I think she is meat only. I have MS in my family so I am always interested in hearing the experiences of folks who find healing through nutrition. Thanks for this video summary.

I applaud you for taking the time to do this analysis. My take on how to improve my MS symptoms with food is to keep it simple. I have very limited energy. I try to use a great deal of it to exercise simply and prepare simple healthy foods rather than grabbing easy processed foods. I can just hope that in the long run, this change will help to improve my energy. Only then can I consider spending even more energy to follow a strict diet protocol. I'm not a great cook and the effort it takes to learn how to prepare foods I'm not used to, let alone the energy and money to buy what I need to cook these foods, is currently overwhelming. I laughed when you used the word "compliance" to describe MS patients following a strict diet protocol for a study. I would call it "achievement" instead. Those who could follow it are already better off then those who didn't have the energy to follow it. I consider this the biggest flaw in all of these studies.
@Lonelywarrior776 ай бұрын

While I applaud the effort of these authors to promote a diet that could help people with MS, most of these diets are simply too complex to adhere to. The very nature of MS symptoms include limited mobility (affecting people's ability to travel to the store to obtain many of these foods consistently), memory/cognition issues interfering with the ability to prepare and track consumption, and other physical issues limiting the ability to prepare it. All of these factors will lead to frustration and disappointment to most who attempt these diets. My best advice is to focus on weight management and exercise. Limit processed foods and refined sugars. I think intermittent fasting is a FANTASTIC and easy way to control insulin spikes and lose weight easily without much preparation or feelings of deprivation. I believe as more studies are done about intermittent fasting, its benefits will become more apparent.
@ernietollar4077 ай бұрын
I don't find these diets 'simply too difficult to adhere to' many do, but many maintain such diets. Diets very greatly around the world and always have.. We get used to certain diets and shop accordingly, but once a different shopping list is adopted and a few new favorite recipes are used its easier than many would believe.

Well, I had gut issues for many years, before MS ever showed up, likely had candida overgrowth and disbiosis. However, I can't claim it in any way to be connected to MS, as I got ADHD and it pretty often is bundled with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), which I have finally been diagnosed with officially, thus now I've been recommended low FODMAP diet and switched to it almost two months ago, it actually works, if only my spinal cord was not damaged by MS, perhaps I'd feel like my guts are finally OK by now, yet MS adds another layer of issues on top of those gut problems.
