The pen is HIS heart! what hes saying is My heart belongs to you (its yours, I belong to you, theres no-one else) and when she says I don't want it and he answer then if its not yours give it back he means then put me out of my misery if you don't love me. But she says NO!: I want you to suffer some more, I want you to hurt as much as you've hurt me! I literally came in the comments to see if anyone else caught it and yours was the only one close to my interpretation. Im in MSCL phase where im rewatching all the episodes and my favourites parts non-stop, it happens every so often. Love your way ❤️

Don't forget this was a time when Cell Phones and Internet were just barely coming into our lives. People had to have actual conversations with eachother and talk things out face to face. You weren't texting a bunch of emojis to express yourself. So yea a lot of uncomfortable and awkward conversations took place in person. People were also social with eachother whether you wanted to be or not.
