Love "Be bossy with your money"! My Mom worked in insurance and bought a life insurance policy for my daughter once she was born. She said the policy is cheaper and easier to get when they are young. You never know what type of medical issue a person will end up with as they get older. If anything were to happen to your child you will want the money to make it through 6 month- 1 year without having to worry about finances. Of course you can save that amount too in an emergency fund.

Yes, we drive our cars into the ground. I see so many people with 'new' cars often. I figure they must be leasing. We were looking for new beds and just wanted to see what all the hype was about the sleep number bed. We said 'we will think about it' and they pulled the hard sale "I can't guarantee this deal will be around for long" I just was like - yeah, sure okay and we walked out.

Before I buy something on Amazon I go and check Ebay's price on it.. it's usually 75% cheaper. Ebay has a lot of whole sale sellers directly from the manufacturers. Although I must warn you the shipping takes about 2 weeks to a month since its free and overseas.

We're guilty of a lot of these! The one we're good about is not replacing things that aren't broken. We'll even do whatever we can to fix something before we resort to replacing it. I fixed my previous laptop myself 5 or 6 times before it was finally beyond repair haha

our mistake was to not replace our lawn mower 3 years ago . Every year it break a couple time during the summer and we endup trying to fix it ,wasting money because it just keeps breaking and we end up with the grass so long that we have to pay someone to cut it while the mower is in repair At the end we would have wasted less to buy a new mower right away and not have to deal with all that crap 😂

It can be hard watching all my friends get new phones all the time with new features, I do get envious. But I accept hand me down phones from my brother and use them until they are completely dead. When it comes down to it, the sticker shock of a new phone always prevents me from getting one when I am in the store. I can take my brother's old phone and get a prepay plan for less than $40 a month for the amount of data I tend to use.

I love these videos, I think my biggest problem is allotting any monies left over to a particular spot. If there is money left over I usually spend it on my kids instead of putting it towards debt. I'm going to sit down and take another look at how much extra I can put on my 4 credit cards every month, then if there is money left over I can use that on my kids and I ned to start saving an emergency fund. I suck at budgeting 😔

Debt Free Dana ツ People have been saying that for years, but I don't know what's wrong with me. I tried several times to use the cash envelope system, but failed miserably - cash flows through my hands like water! I've been doing so much better paying my monthly bills online with my debit card. When it comes to life insurance, it is important to understand it. Agents will fill your head with junk about cash value policies being an investment but they never tell you that your growth is capped. They will tell you that these policies are an investment but they are really more of a forced savings plan with because of their low rate of returns relative to inflation.

My husband's looking into buying our first home now that we have three kids and would have to get a three bedroom apartment. He's discouraged because every time we pay off a debt for our debt snowball, our rent goes up about equal to the minimum payment we just knocked off. I'm a little nervous about buying a home with half of our student loans left, but I can see his side of things too. I'm a stay at home mom and we don't have assets to sell off. I just don't want to make a mistake in something as big as buying a house.
@taleoftruth
@taleoftruth 7 жыл бұрын
The debt snowball is a Dave Ramsey thing. He would advise not buying a house until the debt is gone and until you can save up at least 20% for a down payment. He actually prefers not taking out debt for a home but he looks the other way since the cost of the house is so big. The reason for the large down payment is to avoid having to pay PMI and starting with no equity in the home. I have to say I agree. Home ownership looks good on paper but if you enter it living paycheck to paycheck and no emergency savings, repairs will end up in loans or credit cards and bury you deeper in debt. Good Luck!

DBUPatriotPrincess If it is possible in your area, I'd go live in a trailer. You'd have hardship like camping conditions for a year. But you'd save, and maybe save enough for a house downpayment if you live in the USA. And if your social circle looks down on you for your choice of living, well, see it this way : They would never help you financially to pay off your debts.

If the mortgage payment will be less than the rent, it may be your possibility to pay off other debts. You can think about that as ‘renting’ from the bank, with the difference that at the end of those payments, it will be yours. And you can re-calculate for a lower % later on. Research well, maybe contact Habitat for Humanity if they’re around you, they lower the house price in exchange for work.

We wear our clothes until they're unbearable and then they often become cleaning rags, etc. Our appliances aren't replaced unless they're beyond repair and same with cars, etc. That's normal for us, but I'm sure a lot of our friends and family think we're misers. 😁

My money mistake has always been using my debit card and also stress shopping. When I'm stressed I love window shopping and that usually ends up with a "but it's only $5" purchase. That money adds up! Using my debit card has always been horrible because I don't have to emotional tie to my money like with cash. Also it's way too easy for me to go over budget. The $50 I would have spent with only cash now becomes $70 because I can debit it instead.

dear Dana, isn't using a credit card and paying it off in full every time a good way to improve your credit rating??
@SimplyMicheleLynn
@SimplyMicheleLynn 7 жыл бұрын
That's a great question and a common concern but if you follow Dave Ramsey any debt is bad. The only reason to even worry about your credit rating is if you want to get more debt. If you are trying to be debt free you don't need a credit rating.
@DebtFreeDana
@DebtFreeDana 7 жыл бұрын
+thebestwillow It is, that's true. But it's also dangerous. It's too easy to not pay it off and acquire debt. High balances sneak up on people most of the time. A ZERO credit score is the goal, meaning you have no credit accounts open and cash in the bank. You can still buy a house with lenders who do manual underwriting if you have a zero credit score. 😊
@nicolesmith-wilson6420
@nicolesmith-wilson6420 7 жыл бұрын
Debt Free Dana ツ I don't understand how a zero credit score could ever be a good thing. If you don't own your own home or need cars in the future, they have to be payed in cash/check to purchase them. If something happens you couldn't get a loan or if you did the rate would be sky high. I understand the goal is to get debt free. Which is an awesome goal to have and achieve! Even completely debt free it's hard to pay in full for a car or house. Even just having the minimum bills possible it would take us 4+ years to save for a car (nothing fancy). That's only if something else wouldn't happen in the mean time. My husband and I are currently in very little debt. Everything is payed off but my $5,000 in school loans. However, I buy groceries on my credit card and pay them off at the end of every month. It's all budgeted out, which helps because my husband gets payed once a month. My husband has zero credit he has never been in debt. I also haven't gotten to add him to my credit card yet to help his credit. Which means he has to give big depots when setting up Utilities. He can't even get an emergency credit card if something would happen. If he ever tried to get a loan for anything he would be denied or sky high interest. Our Insurance is also higher, most go up if your credit score drops below 600 something. I understand how it's good to be debt free! However, I don't understand how it's good to have a zero credit score? I'm really just curious I'm not trying to come off rude. I really hope you don't take it that way! I'm still young and trying to figure things out. We have had nothing but trouble because my husband has zero credit. Is it realistic to have a zero credit score when your a young family. When your trying to start out and buy a home for your family. Where I live I could be paying a $500 mortgage or $900 in rent. To rent just really isn't an option when it's so much higher than buying.
@taleoftruth
@taleoftruth 7 жыл бұрын
The point of "zero" credit score is to keep you out of debt. I understand that a mortgage is still important but you can get home loans without credit. As for cars, why would you ever want to pay interest on an asset that depreciates that quickly? The deposits paid and increased rates are significantly cheaper than the amount of interest it takes to earn a high credit score. If you can be honest with yourself and pay the credit card balances in full every month, they can be a great tool. For the majority of people, credit cards cause financial problems. Don't believe people when they say you have to have credit though. The American dream is a scam!

Debt Free Dana ツ thank you so much. That is what I am coming to realize. I am a small business owner and I don't have much retirement....but I would have plenty to pay for a funeral and have some left over. It is not much but it is something. To say it like this: not paying attention to bills will ultimately cost a lot more than simply paying the bill right away -- at least here in Norway. I got a bill of approx. 90nok, and I brushed it aside and eventually forgot about it. . . and then I did the same with the collection note -- and next thing I know, I receive a warning note and a bill of 550nok. . . instead of the original 90 that I owed. So, good gracious -- pay. your. bills. right. away.

I buy my favourite t shirt brand in multiple designs n colours again during a sale as I THINK that I will be wearing these forever. However, I ended up giving away some of these t shirts BRAND NEW years later because I put on wt and these t shirts do not fit me comfortably any more.

Best things are bartering systems however you need to network with others in regards to such.Also go to an auto mechanics school and get your car fixed for 1/4 of the price.The teachers have to over see the students,it's worth it for small things such as brakes,fluids, motor mounts.I was in bad credit card debt. I research on line a few low interest cards.I got one and did two transfer balances.saved me a bundle. By doing this I also got my credit score up. If you can take on a part time job.I host international students and tutor. I made balloon payment on this balance transfer card.Another thin to do is have a savings account without a debit card.If you really need cash,then you will have to go into the bank.Most companies have a system where money can be taken out of a pay check and put into different account,savings IRA's,etc. (that's how I was able to buy my home,actually the down payment ).Your tips are helpful!

Because every month is different, of course a lot of expenses will be the same, especially if you also set money aside for the more infrequent expenses, those expenses you can just copy so it won't take much time to make the minor corrections every month. You will usually also have to update the budget during the month, as things happen that might cause you to change your plan, that is life and normal :)

Ah- my mistake ...the big one. I did not invest in myself. I took a "semester" off ...12 years ago and got a 'job'. I had a baby and decided to work and make money rather than struggle while I was young and my family was smaller and finish my schooling. Here I'm about to be 40 with no career to fall back on. I was laid off awhile back and have been out of work for about 3 years. Getting back in the game is a challenge now that our debt has piled up and any random job won't balance out the expense of child care. If I had an education or training to sell myself back in the game - or had HAD a better 'job' before ...well a whole different story of course. So now for peace of mind I hound my children about investing in themselves. I'm the crazy old lady that shouts at all the kids about college hahah

Dianalyn Frank hey, they have affordable online courses. You should look into it. My mom got a bachelor's as a single mom online and she worked full time. She is now 45

A college degree doesn't even guarantee you a job now days, it only betters your odds! Work experience counts for more than a degree in most cases. Unless your going to be a Doctor, Lawyer, Architect, Engineer etc. 90% of the jobs out there don't even require a college degree, for most people it's just a waste of money that when you graduate their will be very little return on investment and you'll end up working at Wal-Mart for $12.00/HR!

Life isnt that hard. Constantly study and grow. Learn new skills and advance the ones you already have. Down size. Don't go in to debt to buy depreciating assets. All things I wish had been taught me before i got older.

The biggest money mistake I made was not having a retirement account (the one that is deducted from taxes!), because I come from a post-communist country where the country still decides what pension you get, based both on your past earnings, but also the budget and moods of the government. When I started researching that, my mind was blown 😆

How will the person who brings in the income be able to work if the person who stays at home dies or is terminally ill and needs long term care? This made me get life insurance, I wouldn't want my husband to struggle. If he dies, his work would pay out his salary x3. If I die, there would be nothing but he'd have to pay for childcare or give up his job. With my insurance we'd both be financially secure in either event.

regarding life insurance. I am very estranged from my biological family, someone else is down as my next of kin at all agencies, and she wouldn't lose income from my passing. nobody would. I am also single, and expecting to stay that way, and have no dependents and definitely will stay that way. is there any value in me having life insurance?

Debt Free Dana ツ Curious that you told her no, she doesn't need a life insurance policy. What do you suggest instead, a pre-paid burial plan? It's ridiculously expensive to bury people nowadays. So without something in place, it's can become an immense burden and a financial disaster for friends and family in the midst of their grief. What are your thoughts?

Bowwow against Whole life is borrowing your own money!! Term and save the different. The money will be in your control. thebestwillow does not need life insurance. A ira with enough money to handle burial(retirement) is what will work best for him.

Credit cards name fine as long as you pay off the balance in full each month. Without credit card it is harder to build up a credit rating.
