Yeah, I did this like one week ago, and it is great to get rid of that shimmering. Also turning off Raymarch helps a lot, particularly regarding the hue you get around trees in front of water. I've kissed those hues goodbye now. Loving it. Using the G2 btw.

Thanks again, Pie. This is huge. No more shimmers. VR in the G2 took leaps, and bounds for me after this edit, with world scale set to 85% in OXR toolkit...holy crap!! I'm loving VR right now. 👍👍

Just a quick note of thanks. I was beginning to think I’d need a PhD before I’d solve the the settings conundrum in flight sim 😂. Used your settings for the RTX 3080 with the Reverb G2 and went from 31fps average over Florence, using DLSS and motion repro with a render scale of 70% to 43-45 fps average using TAA and MR off with a toolkit render scale of 85%. A remarkable change. I’ll probably cap the FPS at 35 in the nvidia panel as the fans are really kicking in. The difference is astonishing TBH, 70% was the previous render limit for my rig, or so I thought. I also used the same foveated rendering settings as well. A first for me, but it seems to work quite nicely, don’t even know it’s there. Great work! 👍🏻👍🏻

This config change made the single biggest difference to my VR experience. That tree shimmer was killer. I don't understand why they don't just have that sharpen option disabled by default for VR, it's not like we get a perfectly clear picture in the headset anyways. Or at least make it easy to toggle on and off via the UI. Not only did this fix the shimmer on the trees but I find that the ground textures blend together much better, especially in the distance and the overall look of everything including the edges of water are improved. I also find that everything doesn't look as overexposed as it did previously for whatever reason. Now I just need to re-dial in my OpenXR Toolkit settings and I'll be good to go.

What a fantastic result I've had with this. Thank you! Quest2 and 3080, after first applying your change it was really blurry but I've found that without the sharpening filter on I can run much higher resolution. I'm running 150% Terrain Level of Detail in game 1.5 Supersampling in Oculus Tray Tool and because the resolution is so high I've turned anti-aliasing off all together. Thanks again. Great channel 👍

I really appreciate your doing these videos. I'm having trouble though understanding what effect you're referring to and what is acceptable v unacceptable. I don't know what you mean by "shimmer". I don't know if it would be possible but having A/B video to show what you're trying to fix and how the fix looks afterward would be really helpful, at least to me. I love my VR, but I have all kinds of nettlesome little problems. I don't know if it is me, the limits of current VR tech or something that can be fixed with a change of setting. For the most part, I just copy your settings. I have no idea what I'm doing or if I should be doing something differently than you are. Thanks!

Hi there: once again great video, I have two questions, do you adjust the scale in the new tool kit? the other question is what could be causing VR to be jumpy when moving my head? the only thing that stops it is turning on motion reprojection in open XR

Try making the following setting in the openXR tool: Dampening -50%. It worked for me. No jumpy head any more.

Do you by any chance have a solution for a little problem I have in VR: half of the cars on the road are flickering on and off, other half is just stable visible.

Color grading right above it is even better. Set them both to 0 and you will be amazed!

@@highaltitude787 it works with the Aero but absolute not recommended because it is going blurry then. The NIS scaler or tool is not compatible with the Aero version of OpenXR. So far you don't need to soften the oversharpen because you are not using the NIS layer. This is only for prohibit an double sharpen.

I use a Quest2 but it's my first time doing FS VR so I think it's looks amazing, but I've got no frame of reference, nothing to compare it too. But I'll try this and report back. One question I have, is all other things being the same, what difference would using a Reverb G2 make for me? Cause I got the FS VR bug bad! lol Thanks!

Yes its known this helps a bit but the amount of shimmering is still completely unacceptable to me. The only choice i have to negate it somewhat is to fly at dusk/dawn. Really dissapointing considering they basically introduced this with SU5. There was some shimmering before but nowhete near the mess we have now

Depends on the headset and settings you are using. The higher the PPD the sharper the visuals.

proper adjustement with headset to eyes is crucial as there is sweetspot on the most lenses.

I assume you use Rift S or Quest 2. Those have low resolutions.
