PLEASE NOTE! I am using the FULL native resolution of the Quest 2 at 90HZ which can KILL your performance. However this is meant to be a stress test and has to be done 😁 Thanks everyone for your comments
@Incommensurabilities4 жыл бұрын
So the headset runs at 90Hz, and MSFS delivers as may frames as it can, using re-projection for the rest, right? Are you saying the extra reprojection frames (compared to 72 or 80Hz) hurts the MSFS frames? I'm running similar settings but on a GTX 1080 (so pretty choppy) at 90Hz and wondering if I drop to 80 that it would help. I find 72 gets flickery and is distracting. Thanks for this great video btw :)
@VRFlightSimGuy4 жыл бұрын
I'd definitely recommend 80hz and lowering the resolution down to about 1.3. You can lock your reprojection down to 18fps which will help, or turn it off completely using the tray tool which I describe in my Quest 2 setup video. Best of luck!

Great video Steve, I'm glad the FPS was worth our upgrade expenses! Addressing a couple of points. Yes, all RTX 2000 and 3000 series cards have a dedicated hardware video encoder that handles the quest video encoding saving your CPU the job, making the new NVidia cards great for Quest 2 use. Regarding the Quest 2 being harder to run than the G2 that may be due to you running the Quest at a higher resolution. I believe you are running the Quest to at its 1.7 render resolution that's 5408 x 2736 resolution. If you're running the Reverb G2 at its panel resolution that would be 4324 x 2160 so quite a bit lower. I'm not sure what the Reverb G2's render resolution would be corrected for barrel distortion but I imagine its 7000 or thereabouts., Good luck running it at 35 FPS at that resolution! I think that's the difference you're experiencing, nothing to do with the USB-C connection or extra video encoding required as your 3090 hardware encoder handles that separately. Another KZbinr I watch, sim racer Karl Gosling ran a comparison with his Quest 2 and G2 and said there was no performance difference between the two.

I'm researching the subject as I would like to eventually, get a gaming PC. I've noticed that, all of these YT videos, record off the same computer used to play them, and, from what I've been able to gather thus far, does play a factor when it comes to FPS. I've yet to find a video that offers final FPS numbers compensating for the fact that, the PC used to play the game, is the same as the one used to record the YT video. It's inevitable, I know, that's a given. It would be nice if the creators of these YT videos, could give actual figures of what they actually achieve, without the taxing effects of having to record the video while playing the game. Is this possible? Or, is the difference so negligible that it is not worth mentioning?

before "Limited by GPU" after "Limited by CPU".. overclocking your 10900K will improve the frames... ALSO noticed, for Rift S, 100% render in both game AND tray tool is actually higher than the native resolution (1440p in the rift s) to get actual 100% I have to set the Oculus debug tool to 0.89 rendering. Then the game says 1440p... interesting...
@kevinbrook70334 жыл бұрын
Panel resolution and render resolution are very different things. The panel resolution of the Rift S is 2560 x 1440. However because you view the screen through curved Fresnel lenses, this curvature creates a barrel shaped image, resulting in under-sampled pixels in the centre. In other words running at its panel resolution is less than 1:1 pixel mapping. To perceive the image at its full native resolution you need to run it at its actual render resolution, which I believe is 1648 x 1776 per eye, doubled up to make 3296 x 3552, i,e much higher than its panel resolution.

i have the Asus RTX 2080 TI... and i used your setting with the latest nvidia drivers - 13 fps on my G2 Reverb :/ EDIT: when i fly the 747 fps is about 10 - with a small military jet about 30?!?!

I ditched the QII and went back to my Vive Pro with its HDMI port and the performance from the QII was miles better, so in my view the QII is held back by having no dedicated DP and that encoding is hitting performance big time.

That "Uber" you got, did the beard trimmer come with it, and was it easy to use? 🍻

60% in performance increase? It's literally 2x increase = 100%. :) You had around 15-17fps, now you have 30-35. And yes, it's not the worst case scenario. Add some nasty overcast weather with rain, and maybe A320, and do the test. :)
@VRFlightSimGuy4 жыл бұрын
Weather makes no difference to my setup. I'm not mathematician but 12fps Vs 35fps is at least 60% (I think lol)

At equal power the 1080ti is nearly as powerful than rtx3090. I can run fs2020 in vr 2880x1600 with only 200w. Rtx3090 uses 350w. So to me for the difference in fps, the 1080ti is as good. It cost me less in electricity and It is very smooth in vr and i get 59fps in high end settings at 1440p with detail and scaling at 100. No need to change. I get 32fps in vr mode. In 1080p i get 65fps in high settings. I play in 1440p with trackir5 or in vr with my samsung odyssey for vfr flight.

Double the frame rate, ugh. Looks this upgrade to the 3070 will be very short lived. Planned obsolescence, I was going to get a 3080 ASAP, but have to just go all in on the 3090. Can’t get one anyway so glad to see the 1080ti is at least playable. From I’m what I’m seeing in benchmarks the 3070 should give me about a 20% improvement over my 1080ti.

,my 1080ti blower edition give me better result than rtx3070. Easily. 65fps 1080p, 60fps 1440p, 45fps 4k , 32fps vr samsung odyssey , all at high settings, 100 scaling details and TAA. And i set my gpu only at 80/90 power target and limited to 67C temp, 1488 core speed, boost at 1700. I can push more further at 1540 or 1620, same for the memory i keep it at 10700, i can easily go over 11000. My cpu is not overclocked (ryzen 1800x). I bet the rtx3070 don’t do that because i am close to rtx3080 numbers.

I have a 5700xt, and a HP reverb g1, probably not even going to try vr in msfs before they update to dx12 lol😂
Don't forget, this is using the native resolution of the Quest 2, render scale at 100, I am recording (knocks off 7fps) and I'm in really densely populated area

You're losing 10 fps straight away by not animating the RGB on the case fans. I have mine set to "Rainbow" and FS runs much smoother. :)

It is just crazy that you can get max 33-35 FPS with the very high-end CPU and GPU. Something is not quite right with MSFS..Whatever reason it is not a game/sim for the masses.
@CC-gt3ro3 жыл бұрын
I get 65fps in 1080p, 60fps in 1440p and 32fps in vr mode 2880x1600 with samsung odyssey. All of this with high settings and TAA anti aliasing and 100 scaling and details. My machine is 3 years old. Fs2020 is very good when you consider it simulate a plane and the background and clouds. It is very difficult to program such quality in normal pc. I am a developer and appreciate the development they made. I can believe they were able to program. Try to develop with the directx12 simply a simple scene and then come back. You will see. I have only…a ryzen 1800x, 1080ti blower, 32GB ddr4/3200, ssd nvme 1.3. Asus crosshair vi hero, seasonic powersupply. Solid components but very accessible today. I bought the best 3 years/ 4 years ago.
