Dear Ms Lena, this delicious recipe is familiar to me also, handed down by my Grandmother who was born in 1897 Alabama and moved to Pittsburgh in 1919 before settling in Ohio a few years later. She was cook at Children Orphanage for over 40 years. I am so happy you are making these historical recipes available. Blessings to you and your daughter. ❤

Wow, I heard the crust ‘crunch’ as you began to cut the cake. The fluffiness as you beat the butter at first was beautiful. I would have loved to see the finished texture. The cake looked amazing! Next time remember to show the cake when you slice it so that we can see how moist the inside is. We believe it was moist because you said it was but it would have been nice to see it as well. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

I received this recipe in 1984-85 while living in Germany. First scratch cake I ever made, only difference is 6 eggs . I've twecked it a bit since than but I'm going to try it with 8 eggs. For my liquid I use carnation milk, and sometimes I use 7up and a tbsp of lemon extract

To avoid the messiness of taking the butter out of the wrappers when they get to room temperature, unwrapped the frozen butter and place it in the mixing since you are removing the wrappers from the room temperature butter and placing them in the same bowl--looks like a good recipe worth a try. It's amazing that you are able to give measurements, since in those days they eyeball the ingredients

Ms. Lena, that recipe looks good. I wish you had shown the slice of cake and the cake once the slice was removed before you ate it. I wanted to see the texture.

Well hello Miss Lady Miss Betty crocker that cake you making my grandmother makes that kind of cake everybody learn how to make it except for me but my aunt she makes cakes all the time like that and she makes sweet potato pie too I would love to have a slice of that cake you make it the some homemade vanilla ice cream wow but you're the best too keep doing what you're doing
