100% disagree. Should have been a quick cameo like Schwartz or Holzman, their extended cameo, references to their previous portrayal of the characters, and meeting and literal caressing of Ariana and Cynthia took me completely out of the movie. My suspension of disbelief completely shattered in that scene, which is really sad, because I love the stage version of One Short Day. There is not a single world in which Idina should have done the Defying Gravity climax.

Last night I enjoyed a visually stunning and spectacular experience and I am ready to go again! OMG!!! BEST movie I have seen in a long time. Cynthia is a powerhouse performer and she OWNS this role! Her voice is incredible and her emotional depth make her character both sympathetic and fierce. I get the feeling Ariana is playing herself but there is no denying her own impressive vocal range that harmonizes with Cynthia's so beautifully and she was very suited to the role of Galinda. I loved all the references to the Wizard of Oz 1939 movie, which is one of my favourite movies. Admittedly I've learned so much from watching these KZbin reviews, otherwise I would have missed a lot! That's why I need to see it again! The sets are magical, lush and expansive, the costumes were gorgeous, the choreography, the songs all brilliant - Defying Gravity gave me chills and made me cry it is SOOOOOOOOOOO extraordinary! Those words: "Ev'ryone deserves the chance to fly! And if I'm flying solo At least I'm flying free." Loved, loved, loved it and cannot wait for Part 2!!!

Actually, #6 is in the stage musical...sort of. It wasn't in the script when the show opened on Broadway, but that meet-cute scene was added to the stage version in 2006 when the West End version opened. The circumstance was a little different, and the way Fiyero ribs Elphaba about her skin color is a different joke ("Maybe he saw green and thought it meant 'go'.") Nonetheless, the meet-cute before the Ozdust scene is in the stage version.

I won’t lie, I loved this movie. But there is a change I didn’t agree with: Boq’s last name. In both the book and musical, it is a tragic surprise who Boq becomes, that builds up over the course of the story. And considering Boq was originally a separate character in the original Baum books, it works as a surprise. Honestly if they had just gave Fiyerio and Boq more scenes showing their friendship, it would actually lined up better for Part 2.

I hope they plan to go the extra mile and cover the rest of the story. ** Prequel The real story of the Wizard arriving in Oz-something more authentic than that 2013 film. - When sentient animals still roamed in abundance, as mentioned in Wicked. - Explore the drought that Elphaba referenced. - Include hints or even an actual encounter with the Nome King as he harvests emeralds for his city. ** Dorothy - A remake of her tale with added perspective from what we now know through Wicked. ** Witch of the East With the limited portrayal of the Wicked Witch of the East in the original film, there’s plenty of room for writers to expand on the events leading up to and following the tornado. A whole new conversation may take place here. Or even the event may differ - Were they all already in Munchkinland, engaged in some kind of argument or conflict before the tornado struck? Or did Elphaba arrive after the incident, drawn by the news of what happened to her sister? as depicted in the old film. - Imagine the moment when Elphaba sees a young girl wearing the slippers-her sister’s only tangible legacy. Stricken with a mix of anger and guilt, she demands the slippers back, insisting they’re useless to Dorothy and that only she knows how to wield their power. Yet, beneath her fury lies a deep, sentimental attachment to the slippers, tied to her grief over Nessarose’s loss. However, with no real understanding of the larger situation and given her young age, Dorothy would understandably be terrified. She might misinterpret Elphaba’s intentions, seeing her as more threatening than she truly is. ** Return to Oz (Sequel) The invasion of the Nome King. With the Wizard overthrown, the Nome King reclaims the emeralds stolen from his land. Is the Wizard still in Oz, perhaps in exile? Will Dorothy, now older and more mature, get the chance to meet the real Elphaba? What of the Scarecrow? Is he still turned to stone, or did he leave to stay with Elphaba after the fall of the Emerald City? 🙇🏻♂

The political salience of the narrative is so heartbreaking. I cried in the theatre thinking of the people that the country I live in is helping to murder en masse in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran… and anyone who speaks up against this can lose their jobs, is painted as an antisemite (even when they are Jewish)… it’s so depressing that this is the world we live in. I saw someone on instagram relating elphaba to Kamala Harris and even Jon Chu said something like that in an interview and I was so disgusted. I had to remind myself that Wicked is referencing the original Wizard of Oz books, NOT the movie. In the book, Oz was real. In the Judy Garland movie, it was all a dream/something she imagined in while knocked out from the tornado. Wicked the musical/this movie doesn't make sense in the context of the Judy Garland movie, so you really have to forget it exists.

I'll be honest, never seen the musical. Didn't know it existed. So watching this movie, I knew there were going to be some things that they would try to link to that I would not completely know. Having said that, this movie leaves a lot to be desired. Actors did well with the script but the plot gutted the movie and the sequences from one scene to another were very rigid and some which made no sense at all. Why is there a wizard school? What does it matter who elphaba and her sister are? Why is there a prince who came to school for about 2-3 days? Did they even make it clear that there are other countries in the land surrounding Oz? Why, in a world of talking animals, munchkins (who weren't small), bizarre looking people of all shapes and sizes and a GREEN EMERALD city, would anybody be shocked that someone has a green skin when magic is a key element to this world? It would have been better to have Elphaba be known for a great unexplained calamity in her childhood which would be a catalyst as to why people feared her.
