Companies will notice the strike. They don't want a strike, and they will push back. And, part of the push back is increasing prices to the consumer. I’m not against increasing wages, the issue I have is that the increase in one sector will trickle into others causing a cascade effect increasing wages for all. I don’t think that is a bad thing for industries that have a low cost of labor to overall cost of goods. The problem is when you get to the restaurant and service industries, the cost of labor is a higher proportion of total cost. This will mean the all costs of goods will go up cutting into any increase in pay that is reached with the strike. The increase in pay will add to the already high inflation.

It's called bringing pay up to where it should have been for a long while. Don't know how old you are, but I'm old and retired now after working 49 years full-time. Pay used to reasonable before the Reagan era of union busting and tax cuts for the wealthy. During the last 4 decades since, wages have totally stagnated and benefits have been reduced for workers across the board. Reagan's policies and his trickle down economic plans were a total disaster for the average workers and ultimately is the cause of much of the distress many workers feel today. Whenever Democrats have tried to reverse the trend, Republicans either oppose it and won't let it go through or take it right back to Reagan policies when in office.

it does indeed! the federal minimum wage is FAR below what it should be where even a 50% pay raise wouldn't bring people out of living paycheck to paycheck (though it would definitely relieve some pressure). also a 32 hour work week is shown to boost the happiness and productivity of workers, giving them a better work-life balance while being even more productive on the job!
