When the highest court in the land turns against its own citizens in favor of autocracy, you are on the brink of revolution/civil war. No one is above the law and this is the entire point of the country. The idea that a president can be prosecuted criminally is actually written into the impeachment clause. The argument they're making is that the law never applied to the president's official acts, and that they're now "clarifying" that. It's obviously ahistorical, as Nixon was clearly about to be charged for Watergate, but got pardoned by the following president (WHICH IF HE GOT PARDONED MEANS HE WAS DEFINITELY IN LEGAL TROUBLE).
