Even better used as a 1 person tent. Enough room for the helinox chair, low height cot, and little table with storage room left to keep the panniers off touring bike inside.

I purchased this tent and yet to use it in the backcountry. Despite the weight, selected, based on my desire to have a larger space area. My wife or son will accompany on hiking adventures, and between us, trail weight is not an issue, since one of us can pack the tent, or break it up. I bought this tent on the reviews alone, and I own other MSR products, which I'm extremely happy with. Plan on using in the GSMNP and RMNP in 2019. Great video, thanks for the awesome review!

This is a great tent, I have one, but calling it a three person tent is a joke. Two people will fit in it comfortably but three will be a really tight fit, shoulder to shoulder.

Would this tent fit a queen size air mattress? I am wondering if it would be a good purchase to use for front country camping as well.

Standard queen mattress dimensions are 60" x 80", with the Elixir 3's floor measuring 84" x 68", one could just fit in there!

Im going to be camping with my girlfriend and I as well as a German shepherd. Just some single over night trips. For my price range it seems the Elixir is the way to go as I wont be going in winter time. I'm wondering if I would get away with the Elixir 2 to try and save on weight or would I be smart to just get the Elixir 3 and suck it up for carrying the extra bit of weight? I don't want to be cramped in there. What are your thoughts?

Not unless you have a teacup German Shephard that I haven't heard of, you'll certainly want the 3p.

Hi Zahinn, we generally recommend anywhere from 50-70 liter backpack, and in the case of this tent we would err on the side of caution by going larger closer to 70. Ideally if you could share the load with someone else you it would save you a good amount of space and weight.

Hi there and thanks for watching! The Elixir is a bit heavier coming in at 5 lbs 14 oz and 7 lb packed. The BA Blacktail is 5 lb, 11 oz packed and 5 lb, 3 oz . The BA tent has a 44" interior height and 44" floor area. The Elixir is 41" interior height and 39" floor area. So pretty close but the BA tent is a bit bigger

Would you recommend this over the Marmot Tungsten 3P for backpacking?

That's a tough call Farouk! Both are great options. The Tungsten 3P is quite a bit lighter and more packable, but we believe the construction and materials of the Elixir are more robust.

Thanks for the informative video. Having a hard time between this the Elixir 3 or the new Dirt Motel 3 by Kelty. It would be for both backpacking and car camping. Thoughts?

You're welcome! They are similar tents in that they both use thicker fabrics and should be extremely durable over time. Both seem a bit too heavy for solo backpacking, though they could be more manageable if you have people to split weight with. @@tvd9015 none, just do real bicycle touring instead with a real touring bike. Then this tent is perfect, fits on the rear rack running lengthwise with your sleeping pad and bag and you'll be more comfy for not trying to be trendy.
