MST3K, RiffTrax, The Film Crew and more are streaming on the Tubi MST3K channel as well as the other platforms mentioned. But here we all are on KZbin. In part because unlike many live streams, we can comment/interact w/other MST3K enthusiasts. I appreciate free 24/7 live streams immensely, but KZbin and other free (and ad-free if you're hip) stream-on-demand platforms have a number of desirable qualities. Often, I'll "tune into" a live MST3K channel mid-episode and head to the nearest convenient on demand service to watch from the beginning or help me identify a movie, short or episode I've not screened in some time. In short, Tubi and the other live streams have that special TV-like "push" I'm-watching-with-many-other-fans-in-real-time media charm, but stream-on-demand is the ultimate source for MST3K and mostly everything else. Mostly.

It's not that much different with Star Trek and Star Wars today. Really, the last scientifically accurate science fiction movie made was probably 2001: A Space Odyssey but it was so boring to the general public. And it was dramatically sterile. There's hardly a word of dialogue for a good chunk of that movie and the main bad guys are a stone monolith and a psychotic computer?!? That and the waltz music was guaranteed to put people to sleep! (That's a problem I have with Disney's Fantasia as well...!) Space opera which is what has been made since 1968 (for the most part) is generally more palatable and dramatically satisfying. Space opera is NOT hardcore science fiction. It's basically the late 20th century/early 21st century equivalent to the Western whether people want to admit it or not.

So apparently, our solar system has multiple Earth-sized planets floating around in it, all of which are capable of supporting human life. And this society has faster-than-light communication, since someone on Earth is able to talk to someone on Mars as if they were in the next room. And an astronaut puts on a space helmet when he enters an airlock, presumably as a safety precaution, but leaves his arms bare, making the helmet completely superfluous. I also love how Rinkman has to explain to Veena how orbits work, because she clearly wouldn't know that, being from a society where space travel is routine. I know, I know, it was for the benefit of TV audiences in 1953, most of whom wouldn't have understood how orbits work. Still, they could have worked it in more logically, or just said the ship was left adrift in space.

@@mikezylstra7514 I'm pretty sure even in 1953 most people knew that was nonsense. However, this was a kids show, and kids wouldn't be expected to understand how orbits work. Actually, the writers really don't either, because in the other Rocky Jones "movie" MST3K did, Crash of Moons, they repeatedly state that the atmosphere chain between the gypsy moons Posita and Negato holds them together. WRONG! Their mutual gravitational attraction is what holds them together. The atmosphere chain is simply a consequence of their close proximity to each other.
