Oh boy, that takes me back to the mid 90's. Well before my family even had cable. NBC was broadcasting Jurassic Park for the first time on television. It was a really big deal. My store bought blank VHS tape shit the bed so 8 year old me had to scramble. I ended up grabbing one of the tapes my dad used to record Live Aid in 1985. He acted as if I had wiped my butt with a Honus Wagner baseball card. Ahhh, the good old days.

I know a lot of people are pissed at the reaction of Jane's parents, but this was a movie aimed to serve as a precautionary tale to teens. The 40s-50s were loaded with these. Reefer Madness, sinister urge, violent years, etc. The goal was to scare kids from doing bad things. Removing a support system is the easiest way to do it. so the parents were either drunks, negligent, unemployed, or just dicks. It's ridiculous, I know.

Those are some awful parents. And that judge's grasp of the law is tenuous at best. And I don't understand why they even needed to trick Jane into coming along with them on a robbery in the first place. Also, I like how they inexplicably leave the girls together in jail and in the car transporting them to the reformatory, despite the fact that they are supposedly accomplices in the same robbery. It's always a good idea to keep all the accomplices together so that they can get their stories straight and none of them will decide to roll over on the others. And why doesn't Jane rat out the others? Is she afraid of them? Does she not know who they really are? And what's the point of keeping Jane hostage? They should have killed her, and they should have done a better job of making sure the police matron was dead too. And holding a family hostage for several days is a lot of nonsensical effort just to get away. And why is Jane's picture on the TV news a cheesecake photo? Did they not take a mug shot of her? And what '50s TV station would broadcast a photo of a teenager in a swimsuit? This is the decade where married couples with children were depicted sleeping in twin beds, and a story arc involving a married woman getting pregnant caused a scandal. None of this makes sense. Wait, what am I doing? This is a MST3K movie, of course it doesn't make a lick of sense.
