Coleman really outdoes himself in terms of utter pointlessness. The movie makes me think that some rich Cuban expat was offering dough for movies about the Bay of Pigs fiasco and Francis, well, he had some film left in his camera after shooting some scenes with his friends and... The epic futility of RZC galvanizing. Plus it includes Coleman Francis' trademark "shot from an aircraft" ending. (See "The Skydivers")

Going by the clues written on the wall, the Sleepy Valley Cafe was apparently located at 13313 Sierra Highway, Sleepy Valley, CA, and to judge by google maps, the building still stands, though greatly remodeled as a dwelling and virtually unrecognizable...but the shape of the building, roof, and awnings are identical. Pretty surprising that this shambolic country cafe (assuming it existed in real life) was a stone's throw out of Los Angeles.

We're being a bit harsh on this film, aren't we? It's not as good as "The Day the Earth Caught Fire", "Peeping Tom", "I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang", or even "First Man into Space" or indeed ANY film produced 70-100 years later, but when you consider "Red Zone Cuba" dates back to 1865 when the whole film industry was in its infancy, it's a reasonable effort. The fact that this film caused the Spanish Flu, the rise of the Third Reich, and the Hindenberg disaster is mere collateral damage.

But I am happy to see Petey the friendly Plane in another movie. I wish he could be in more movies. I miss Petey. I heard that he was actually up for an Oscar in the year 1967. It was really exciting for little Petey but he lost to Wings the plane. It was very sad. Petey then turned to a life of smuggling drugs across the borders and soon he was arrested and sent to Plane prison. It was a depressing time for Petey. After a year in prison, he reformed and soon was flying sick children across the country. Petey still flies for Children's hospitals now and often does talks to other planes that are teetering on crime such as Petey's.

Did this whole movie take place in a single day? Did they just ditch the plane and WALK BACK from Cuba? Why did they throw the diner owner down the well? How did they know what that one guy's wife looked like? And why did they shoot her at the end? This movie makes absolutely no sense. Plus the jump cuts gave me whiplash.
