The F DOES NOT need them, it already runs full Siemens R160’s, which are still very young and are constantly maintained and have been refurbished and everything by Coney Island Yard. It runs with CBTC and everything, the A and C need them to retire their R46’s entirely, and then the N and Q

Most if not all of the R160s there will go to Concourse because the B/D lines need to be CBTC compatible for the 8th Ave Line. So Concourse will be R160 & R211. The remaining R68 cars at Concourse will go to Coney Island Yard on the N/Q/W lines to replace the R46s there.

New York City Transit will likely order more than 400 R-211 cars, with a choice to purchase about more than 600 railcars. It all takes lots of time to accomplish success. It is always better to get it right the first time, than to get it wrong the second time.

Years ago the express from 125th to 59th street used to fly through the tunnels like a bat out of hell for a 20 cent fare when I was a kid. Nice looking new cars, but infrastructure is where the money needs to be spent in the subway. Anything less is just a gown on a pig. For some reason slow transit for top dollar is ok with people.

I do not understand. The front has a reasonable medium size route marker. Then it has a destination sign that's almost microscopic in size in comparison. It's almost like it was an afterthought or if you don't know where the train is going, you don't belong here. Why is the destination sign so small? it could have been given a larger space across the top front. Or, it could have been relocated to a place under the route sign and made larger.

No they do not. The R179 uses Bombardier propulsion, while the R211 uses Alstom OPTONIX

That’s because those are the standard A Train Announcements. When the R211s enter service on the E and R, the announcements will sound like the ones on the R160s.

Only a few more old trains to retire their will be nothing but a modern train running in the future, no more old train,but I wonder what other future train that will look even more different than the R211.we may never know until MTA makes a nother new design.
