Even if the U.S. government did announce a plan to rebuild subway infrastructure, most of NYs money has been spent on skyscraper construction and making their police force the most badass post-9/11, that there is some skepticism that this city will even have fast electric maglev trains by the 2040s, let alone the end of the century… SMH

NYC will creep along as it always has been for the next 20 years. Contrarily, The New York City subway system operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, including Thanksgiving and New Year’s. For just $2.50. I'm sure there are parts of London which look just as third world as parts of NYC, just like any other big city has its rich areas as well as areas where the exploited workers live.

These cars are evolutionary, not revolutionary. They're highly based off the existing so called "new tech" cars that are about 20 years old now. Each car has wider doors. These are about as wide as you can get as the side windows are now pathetically small. The interior looks familiar as well. There are some nice enhancements. The biggest thing is CBTC and the ones with open gangplanks. Otherwise, they're the latest "new tech" cars.

Most big cities in South korea have subways. I was able to use WIFI in the subway and was not even disconnected until I got off. Moreover, 99% of the stations have automated screen doors along the subway platform which make passengers safe when I got on. It was amazing to see and I felt like I see the future. Seoul is just the future. Everything was so amazing and I want to go again.

You forgot wider doors for increased boarding access, CBTC (automation which brings higher speeds and more trains on lines with it enabled), reintroduction of colored route bullets and destination on the fronts, flip seats for passengers with disabilities, LCD screens for more flexible and visually appealing information which are raised above seated passengers for greater visibility, more visible door warning lights, yellow poles for the visually impaired, CCTV inside and outside the train, looped stanchions, information and emergency contact in the train, onboard Wi-Fi and USB ports for passengers, clearly marked door and wheelchair areas, nice-looking and convenient open gangways on future cars, tinted windows for less of a worry that someone may be staring at you from outside the train, general convenience for passengers, traincrew and maintainers, and more...

@Bb King They do not. It's even more clear if you want to include inflation. Newer trains would be designed to be cheaper (but making sure the train's quality is good at the same time). In fact, it may cost more to produce an old train these days as it uses older and rarer technology.

We had very (VERY) similar D78 trains on London Underground. They were retired about 6 years ago now and replaced with state of the art trains from Bombardier UK. Those D78s are now being rebuilt for main line use in local and urban main lines.

They can, and they did. New platforms and cleaned pillars, as well as new mezzanine which were all added with the addition of elevators look nice. Not sure about the rest of the station though; there are definitely people who'd miss the old dirty look if the station was fully cleaned.

@@nyctransitrailfan lol NYC MTA has been running the red light green light system for 60 years and still made no changes. Reason for so many delays is because nobody know if there is a train ahead or behind. I’ve traveled all over Europe and Asia and used their systems , NYC is the embarrassment of the world. Few years ago the city found missing millions in their book keeping, the money is going in to their luxury condos and yachts, the city has pay off other people to cover it all up. These “new” trains is like a bandaid after your got your head chopped off.

@@nyctransitrailfan The "New Improvements" does not translate to better service, so it's useless.... They also threw in billions that could used to upgrade the system in to building Fulton street station, wanting to turn it in to a new Grand central station. I can't be more embarrassed when tourist ask me why some stations is the way it is. By the time of 2050, they'll still be running the same system, we'll be lucky if the "new" trains have USB 2 plug ins.

@@heic1971 CBTC is on the way man, it will replace the old Signal Blocks. Some lines already have it, look at the 7 and L lines, they have this new Technology. It improved service on those lines, right now, the MTA is working to include CBTC on other lines, the Queene Blvd Line, Culver Line, and 8th Avenue Lines will receive this

Before giving the people non Avant garde trains, make sure they come on time, clean the dirty stations, reduce crime, homeless and panhandlers and keep the prices affordable before investing billions and taking our taxes and money for most low income area in NYC not even having a train nearby.

@@deebee4575 I don't think it will prevent it from happening at all, but it will allow personnel/police to respond to them. As far as I know, if they somehow have a means to pay the fare, they can pose as a normal commuter up until they enter the train.
