Great elaboration sir. It is just very funny that all these bugs are flying around. :) Yet thank you for your explanations. I prefer flat pedals, and use Crank Brother and Brave. Which are very similar but Brave is a little more beautiful in design and comfortable standing, the Crank Brother pedals are simply great, little smaller sizes though, I use big shoes so prefer bigger pedals. You forgot to review in the titanium pedals, which can be great as well, and when I use them all I tend to be in line when hitting rocks, with your statements, composites damp the impact better, than comes titanium, which damps as well but a little less, and than aluminium. As for price, durability, design and comfort as well as function I go with Brave pedals since they have models with three bearings the XL flat pedals are awesome, aluminium, come in great colours, and are durable and reliable they come with great pins, also more pin holes so are fully adjustable, pricing is like 10 USD more than Crank Brothers yet as for all over comfort I simply choose Brave pedals. Great questions you posed as well as what type of ride, what type of terrain, what type of riding style, and durability, rebuild ability etc. Very well done sir. Thank you for your great reviews.

Can you recommend a so called slight "upgrade" to stock plastic that has short pins. I want to slightly improve the grip, but limit the shin damage (it will happen on any pedal), and limit the shoe damage. I've ridden MTB 3+ years now with my stock plastic (specialized). So it would appear that composite is the way to go, but now I want low rise pins. Is that Raceface Chester the only choice for what I am looking for?

The Crank Brothers Stamp composite pedal has shorter pins.

about pedals, i use the transport pedals that came with my S-Works Levo (in europe bikes have to be transported with pedals, to be considered for a lower import tax), i never upgraded them, they work fine, and i strike rocks waaay too often to want to spend any money on pedals. clipless pedals would make a difference, but i don't see why i would buy more expensive platform pedals that only want to rip my knee appart.
